Computer Help....Alberta...split....

I have Shaw Cable (TV) in my house, and Shaw Internet (High speed) in my office...I have one cable outlet in the office that is directly connected to my Shaw Modem, can I split that outlet to run one cable to the Modem for Computer and one to a TV? Are there "not so cheap" splitters that are better than the $2.99 Dollar store one? Any suggestions on a 22" ish TV monitor? My Computer is a Dell with a 22" Monitor....Thanks Kids!

Yes, you can. You may experience slower speeds on the cable modem, but it can be done. Try it and find out. A cheaper splitter is not better, but you can try it anyways.

I love my LG 22".

Any way to speed up the modem or at least keep it the same speed.......? Memory or something......? Sorry I am sooooo computer illiterate.....But I can type and spell. Thanks

No way to speed up the modem - it's just a portal. The service provided by Shaw determines the speed, along with signal clarity and number of user on the Shaw network. That's the downside of cable - it slows down as more users get online (Shaw users that is). Doubt you will notice any diff in speed. The only way you would notice is if you were downloading huge files constantly. If you are just web surfing and getting email you won't notice a diff in speed.

Well that brightened my day , Thanks......so just a splitter from wall? One to Comp and one to TV? Ok next question, as all this Digital tv stuff is coming in 09, will I get any stations if I don't hook it to a digital box....All I need is one non-digital station....

A splitter will work just fine for cable. There is a difference between the dollar-store splitters and a decent gold-plated splitter. Even the most expensive one really isn't all that much, if oyu're just buying the one go with a good one.

As far as the digital switch goes.... You have cable right now, the digital switch only affects those (like me) that don't have cable/satellite and use terrestrial broadcast TV. As long as you plan on keeping pay-for-TV, you won't need to worry about it.
