Communicating between sleds

Hey i am looking for a good way to communicate between sleds. Ive heard the fire fox throat mic works well and ive also heard that it is terrible. Any advice would be great. Anyone use anything that works well for them? I ride mostly back country untouched terrain. In other words aggressive riding style. I know there are some units that work well for trail riding but i am not interested in the trail. Any help would be great. Thank you.

We all carry Garmin Rino's.. They work pretty good and it helps pin point each other on the hill.. i think they have a mic you can plug into the radio as well.

I've been lookin around for a decent helmet setup for my radio (FT60)... VS/Yaesu don't make helmet radios, though there are a few for military/police/firefighters that will interface to it. They're really spendy though.

I may just buy parts and pieces and build the whole setup myself... was thinking having the PTT button on the helmet would be nice, that way you can keep the radio in your backpack and not have to unplug yourself from the sled every time you came off, willingly or otherwise... be nice going between sleds too.

I still want an with the bluetooth card, and a decent bluetooth helmet radio... no wires at all :D

We all use the snowfones. They work ok but not perfect. If you keep the sensativity up to talk normal, the vox mic keys every time you roost on your sled. Keep it turned down and it works good for short communications, "Stop pee!"
Depending on how deep you want to get in to a set-up. You can also contact racing radios (racingradios.com). That is what we used in the race cars and there are several combinations available.

We use the Collett 900s. Decent just beyond line of sight, then you start losing signal quick. If someone makes a good $200-$300 weather-proof unit with better range I would sure be interested.

We just use walkies. Good enough for us.

I take my helmet off almost every stop. I don't want to contend with a mic and all that crap every time.

Besides, my chumm makes WAY too much noise for the rest f us to hafta listen to him holler out all day. LOL!

There are plenty of times when it would be kewl to be able to tell the next guy that they CAN "hit that" as the other side is fine ---- or whatnot, but I guess not werth it.

My motorcycle buddies use Autocomm headsets, but they are pricey.http://www.autocomamerica.com/

I've also heard decent reviews of Motocomm. https://www.rflimited.com/Site.asp?CID=3

And like you said, some atv friends say firefox is decent.

I made my own headset using old PC speakers and a mic. The PTT button is awkward, though. It's made out of a Radio Shack project box velcroed to the brake fluid reservoir. Volume is not great, but you can hear someone keying you and then concentrate. You can also make a headphone amp out of an old pc speaker with volume, but you need a battery for it.

Since when did sitting in the cabin sleeping all day be considered aggressive riding? Well I guess sometimes you ride a trail.:D:D

collett's are self contained except the battery unit. work great. wont ride without them. as important as a beacon in the back country (imho). tell the guys to stop before they get to an obstacle, tell them your stuck to come back to you. warn them of hazzards they may not see. ski

We have used 2 way radios, GPS w/ radio and the Chatterbox seems to work the best out of what we have tried. You install it on the helmet, no wires to unplug when you take off the helmet, you can controll the vox, new featurs I guess you can use a ipod, bluetooth etc. Many of us use them in the big horns riding the back country (30-40 easily of course not all riding at the same time, not trails. My hubby just installed his this year, not one problem, even over a hill!! I did not want to have it mounted to the helmet, but I tell you it is very handy when letting people know where you may be, or when it is safe to follow. I am not selling them, I just found something under google....so you could at least see a pic, I will post a pic of my helmet with it on if interested..... I have a moto-x helmet, installed all you see is 1 wire and the radio. Some have the modular it works with that as well!! http://www.ridegear.com/rg/item/F-53828/Chatterbox/GMRS-X1-Bluetooth-Communicator-Kits.html),
