Comments on Spokane and other NW areas??

Hey guys, looking for some comments on the following areas.

I am flying out to Spokane tomorrow morning for a job interview in Missoula Montana. The company has offices in Spokane, Missoula, Whitefish, and Bend. I have been through Coeur d’Alene and thought it was a very nice area. Can I expect the same for Spokane?

Does anyone have any comments on the above cities?

I am a 23 year old structural engineer. I am from a small town in Upper Michigan. My hobbies include: riding sleds and dirt bikes, watersports, hunting, and fishing. Are any of these the right area for me?

Thanks!

Coeur d'Alene IS suburban Spokane. Spokane is no Bend but it is a nice town with a lot more going on than Houghton (I'm from MI too). Bend is much more like the n. MI resort towns like Petoskey or Charlevoix, in fact there are a LOT of MI transplants in Bend because it offers all of the sports in n. MI yet takes them to the next level (WAY next level) as do all of the cities in your list. Move West young man, you will NOT regret it!!!

Have FUN!

I would choose spokane. Has lots to do especially if your from a small town. All of your hobbies you can do easily. Even if your in the center of the city you can be out of town in 30 minutes. I live in spokane and have almost all the same hobbies besides dirt biking. Also decent housing is very affordable to buy. I am 24.

Hello #111. I've never been to Michigan... so I have no comparison to your home area, but I've lived in many different states and climates and I've always come back to the Inland Northwest, specifically the N.ID. & N.E.WA. areas. In my humble opinion, there's no place better for anyone that needs access to a decent sized, high-tech capable city and still wants to be within' driving distance of some of the best outdoor areas available in N. America.

I wouldn't feel good about recomending the area without a warning about the Spokane area though. I would recomend finding a home closer to Cd'A, ID. or further north of Spokane or at least the Spokane Valley area... to avoid the meth and crime problems centralized in Spokane. It is a nice town... but it does have some serious problems, like most larger cities. The criminals are methed out scumbags and the cops are over-zealous, head crackers. Of course... that's just my take though.

That said... I couldn't see myself living any where else, after trying many other regions while growing up. We have lots of lakes and mountains, close enough to enjoy and far enough to not feel like your stuck in the boonies. While it's not as open as it was when I was growing up, there are still plenty of places for outdoor recreation. The hobbies you've listed are right up on the list of many in the area and generally you can get to any area for any of the activities you listed, within an hours drive or less.

Not that I'm a big fan of having more folks move into the area... but it is one of the better kept secrets in the nation, imho. Do your research in advance and I'm sure you'll find plenty of opportunities to enjoy the activities you love here in our area.
