Never been riding in Utah. Our son moved to California so we are meeting in Utah. Looking for area(s) that will be good riding between Christmas and New Years.

Usually ride Big Sky, Cook City Montana and Snowy Range Wyoming. Looking for comparable areas.

Thanks -------- Won't be long now!!

No real plans yet, looking into riding possibilities and then deciding. Logan, Park City??

I don't know too much about the areas down by Salt Lake and Park City, but Logan canyon is my back yard. We have some AMAZING stuff up here. Anything you'd want to ride from trails to steep long pulls, to cliffs, drifts and dense trees. But you can find that all over Utah. And we usually have a decent amount of snow by then as well. Wait.. a... I mean it sucks. Stay home :)

Thanks TGitt! How about accomodations? We would be looking for a place for four for a week. Feels good to be planning our first trip.

Call Jenel with Rustic Mountain retreats @ 801-599-2198 or acutah (http://www.timberlakescabin.com/) on here to book a Cabin in the Heber City area. You can ride right from the cabin without having to trailer your snowmobiles.

I've heard good things about beaver creek lodge up Logan canyon

I live in Heber just below Timberlakes, which MtnPull spoke of, great place to ride.

make reservations for logan area and heber area both.....wait to see what snow conditions are like and then go to the place with better snow. That early in the season can be pretty hot and cold (snow conditions wise), you never know. Any area has great riding though, all types.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Checked into Beaver Creek Lodge and you have to rent sleds to get a room until 30 days prior to arrival, so need to wait on that one.

Also checking Heber area. We are flexible so that helps, we will keep checking suggested areas for lodging.

Thanks again

More ?????

Hello again!

I have more questions. How far must one travel out of Heber to ride? Do you go east to the Wasatch NF? South to the Uinta NF? Both/neither? Trail head parking an issue at these areas?

Sorry for all the questions, but these trips are a big investment for us and we want to take advantage of local advise/recommendations in order to get the most out of our trips. Thanks

A few spots.

I can think of at least 4 trail heads/parking lots that are within a short distance from Heber.
1. Soapstone/Mirrorlake highway. probably around 30-40 min drive at the most. Soapstone is east of the town of kamas.

2. Woodland/nobbletts. About the same distance as soapstone just a little south. It is located east of the town of Woodland.

3 Timber lakes. Couple of minutes east of Heber.

4.Stawberry. South of Heber. Just a short drive as well up Daniels canyon. Lots of places to unload up there and ride.. Also a lodge at the top of the canyon you can syay at. Daniles summit lodge. All these areas have a variety of riding. I like to take my wife up to the strawberry area cause it has lots of open areas and a good place for a hot lunch. All these areas have nice parking lots. Some times they get busy on the weekends, get there early and you should be fine. Weekdays plenty of parking.

Daniels summit lodge just out of heber is great as well. Food, sleds, gas, pool, lots of groomed trails to the back country, fun place to stay. If your main purpose is to ride, I would not stay in heber as you will have to trailer to ride everyday. I would stay somewhere here you can ride from your room, i.e., Daniels summit lodge, beaver creek lodge, bear river service, duck creek village.

I would plan for the after ride too... If your not riding, what is your plan? Night entertainment and accommodations I would consider too imo........

That been said, I think Logan area is usually the best early snow I see as far as the riding goes..
