I know there is an old time mod guy out there that can help with this. Aquired a old mod sled with a Polaris based Price performance motor in it, The clutch is a Comet 108 4 Pro. Anybody have/had 1 and what are your thoughts on it? I know nothing about Comet clutches, is this a keeper and rebuild it or should I just get a P85 with the right taper and do my best to figure the clutching?

I ran a 4 Pro on my old mod 670. Worked great! I was young with little experience with anything. So take that with a grain of salt haha.
If you were to ask me now Id just run the tried and true p85. But Id wait till that comet wore out. Just keep and eye on it often as the comets loved to crack. 1-2 seasons and the comets usually showed signs of wanting to come apart.

the finish on the bearing surface is pretty much gone. i did see that you can buy new comet fixed shives, as well as spiders and such, so how does this remain balanced or is it it in the small print that you must send out to rebalance? If the parts price starts to add up i may just try to source a P85 for this old dog, its somewhere from 93 to 97. dont know when the clutch tapers changed on the crank though either. I do know the P85 better, the hard part will be figuring out the weights and spring. gonna try to get the clutch off tonight and see what it has for weights and spring
