We are trying to plan a trip to colorado to ride rabbit ears, around the 13th to the 16th of jan. need some info on a good reasonable place to stay for 6 of us! Any help would be cool because we have never been there! Riding map link would be cool and or pointers to some good riding areas! please help!

Try looking at the Allington Inn or the Cliffside Inn in Kremmling. Both decent places, the Allington is nicer. Not much of a night life but way cheaper than staying in Steamboat.

Plenty of good places to ride on the Ears/Buff if the snow is good. Just show up on any given weekend and somebody should be there that would be more than happy to let you join their group and show you around.

Bushmaster is a great guy to show ya if you can hang as is Snowmark. I also show lots of people around but I'm splitting my winter between Utah and Colorado so I don't know if I'll be there. Plus Colorado weekends will be spent with my kids so I'll be riding easy stuff.

kremmling

K we got booked in at the allington in Kremmling, from the 13th to th 16th of Jan. We are all excited to ride the mtns of CO. If there is someone who knows the area and is going to ride the 14th or the 15th or both, who wouldnt mind some outsiders company, it would be cool to ride w/ya. We all ride the mts here in Idaho so the only slacker in the group is me, (because Im old and fat) and I will turn it up for the ride down there. We could even up w/cold beers, or a return the favor if you ever get to eastern Idaho. I hope the snow comes until we get there. the snow has been skimpy here. We rode one ride in Afton Wy, it was a good ride but needed more snow, but still was able to get off the trail and do a little climbing and boondocking. The snow was sliding so we stayed in the trees for the most part. Thanks for all the help!

Allington is the place to stay in Kremmling. Really nice rooms for what you pay. I have paid much more and had much worse. I was honestly impressed with that place. They have a nice continental breakfast as well, cereal, fruit, yogurt, bagals, toast, oatmeal, waffles, coffee, juice, milk, etc, etc. You have to figure that breakfast is worth $8-$12a person. Plus they have lots of parking.

help

thanks for the info, im assuming we can buy a permit when we get there! In wyoming we just buy a nonresident from a convenient store when on our way through, is this how it is in CO? Snowmark, if your riding and dont mind some tagalongs, we would appreciate it. It will be an experience for ya, Im sure. :)

Sounds like the out of state permits are not sold at retail. There is some info on this thread.

And from http://parks.state.co.us/OHVsandSnowmobiles/SnowmobileProgram/Registrations/
Out-of-state Snowmobiles
Out-of-state residents who bring snowmobiles into Colorado must purchase a Colorado Non-Resident Snowmobile permit which is valid from the date of purchase through the following September 30. These permits can be purchased via mail in request or ordered online at the Colorado State Parks E-Store. Once purchased, this sticker should be placed on the machine’s outside face of the right front part of the cowling. Since this is only a use permit, no renewal notice will be sent to non-resident permit holders; you must purchase a new permit each year you come to Colorado with your Snowmobile.

trip to CO

Bad news! not gonna make it. My sled lost a crank bearing in Afton Wy. today! So the CO snowmobile trip is postponed for now!

Bummer on the sled! We stayed at North Park Inn and Suites in Walden… Great place, Dave is an awesome guy and the price is very reasonable. As for permits we picked ours up at the court house/sheriff's office in Walden open 24/7/365…I think they were right around $30
