Colorado Grass Drags & WaterX

The snow show is great and all, but why the hell isn't it on some farm where we can see some sleds actually moving? We got tons of grass in Colorado, it should be put to good use. I know grass drags don't really line up with the type of riding out here like it does everywhere east of here, but it's fun to see some fast sleds ripping it up no matter what they are doing.

probably because no one can take the risk of putting on an event like this for liability reasons. Thats the country we live in now unfortunately....

There are some significant changes being looked at for the snowshow next year and grass drags might be something that is added. There are concerns about equipment being damaged because it is not jetted to run at lower altitude. This could be a serious limitation on participation.

Who would be interested in doing a grass drag if it was added to the snowshow?

People have "jets" in there sleds? Weird, I can't even think of the last time I rode with someone who was carbed who rode mountains. I'm pretty sure that someone going to a drag race is likely competent enough to jet up if needed, if they're really running a carbed sled.

As to the liability side of things, they do it all over the place, so obviously they find ways to make it work.

The only downside I can think of is that it would have to be even farther east, out in the flats. Less infrastructure... but obviously they make haydays work, so it's not that big a deal.

I think that would be very cool.

For now though... you'll have to get your fill at Bill's house...:bounce: Funny, I was friggin shaking from having so much fun just pulling the trigger a few times, MAN I MISS SLED SEASON!!!!

Count me in.

Heck yeah... Would be a great addition to the show!!!!!

Definitely a very worthwhile addition to this event.

I came from out east, been out here only a few months. I was just asking someone why there weren't any grass drags out here, as they're EVERYWHERE back home.

My thought is to keep it simple at first, let it grow on its own. Don't feed the drama, or people will get burnt out.

And on the liability, that is indeed a poor excuse. There are many feasible options, typically less than $1000 for full coverage.

Jetting, if you don't know how to jet, then get a slide chart from mikuni. Or ask the race departments. The high altitude riders obviously have their sleds tuned real well, altitude compensation is easy once you have a baseline.

Grass Drags

:face-icon-small-hap I too agree that doing something else like a grass drag or water cross would be a neat addition to the snow show. Talking with the promoters at the snow show for this year it sounds like they would like the vintage guys outside anyway.:face-icon-small-sad If we were to be put outside we could do the grass drags, have our own snow show which would include the AVSCC. In addition to grass drags and or water cross we could do snowmobile weight pulls for distance and time.

There are a lot of neat things that we all can do to support this sport. This could include a show with not only the new 2014 sleds but the vintage sleds as well. I think that the swap meet would have a lot better turn out and participation by not only "used new stuff" for sale but "used vintage stuff" as well. Lets give them Midwest boys and girls a run for their money here in Colorado and show them what we can do, lets make this something fun again.

I suspect most people have set thier sled up for mountain and are not sure how they would fare in grass drags. Hey, make a mountain class!

And exclude the Yamaha's so the rest stand a chance :bounce:

A grass drag hillclimb would be cool if you could keep it somewhat grassy. That would be a cool event for Colorado. A lot of sleds you see at grass drags are purpose-built and will never be used on snow again. The super mod class is crazy.

Maybe looking at a new venue that could do grass drags- sorry no uphill at this facility - it would be close to the front range

totally agree that we would need some classes. Just mentioned the jetting issue as it has come up

Keep it vintage then. There are a lot of old sleds sitting around that aren't "suitable to today's mountain riding expectations"

Honestly, keeping it 2002 and older would reduce the worrying of the mountain guys and give the people with these sleds an option to use them. I see a lot of late model sleds for sale around here, this is where they belong.

there are a couple people working with budweiser to set up a grass drag maybe watercross up in fort collins next year already have the event center and working on getting peple intrested in it for next year same time as the show just with demo s and outdoor stuff to do

I'm always up for a good watercross.
Any pics of the last one we attended?

You mean pictures of THIS day:
