Cold air intake questions.

Ok, I'm installing a BD TAIL setup on my 2012 Pro RMK.
I origianal planed on making my own cold air intake to the stock air box for several resons.
1. Worried about tree limbs putting a hole in it.
2. Didnt want to cutting a hole in the hood.
3. Stealth mode, LOL!
4. Just plain dont like the looks of it.

Ok, now I'm worried the stock air box wont be able to keep up with the air demand with the turbo, because I had to clean it all the time when it was stock. I put an SLP intake on it latter in the year and it helped alot, but it still needed to be clean off some to let the sled breath.

If I leave it under the hood and install vents in front of the intake, what happens when snow hits the turbo and creates steam? I have heard this can causes issues with performance.

What are your guys thoughts?

under hood air is last resort air. been there done that.

we have a good intake that will hold up to some abuse if needed. still used an outerwear but is very beefy.

this is how we do it.

we can send you the parts if needed.

I removed my headlights and put in vents. Then removed the stock air intake from the hood and put vents in the dash area. Instead of plumbing the intake up through the hood, I angled it 45 degrees up into the old head light area. Should get plenty of cold air flowing through the headlight vents right across the intake. Havent had a chance to test yet performance wise. It still gives stealth mode, but should draw more cold air than the intake being right next to the pipe under the hood... :face-icon-small-ton

I had my headlights out also, was going to do the same thing but changed my mind. Would love to now how it will work.

I'm doing this now through the stock intake. I'll post up results as soon as I can get it on the snow. I am gutting the air box and putting the slp intake on the dash. If that doesn't keep up I plan on putting some flow rites from the sides into the box and it that still isn't good enough I guess I'll have to pull the head light.
I had the same concerns as you and after stewing about it for months decided to just do it. I know I rode with 2 different turbo Pro's last year (a Story and BD) that had done it. They seemed to perform really well. I'll let you know how mine turns out.

I run mine through the hood with a BD on a 2012. I tried the under hood setup but I felt it was not getting enough air. I have never had any issues with trees, the cover, snow build up etc.. I'm glad I did it.
