Coilover Setup Help

Have a 20 HC and am having trouble finding info on suspension setup, here or on the Web. Anyone have any good links to get the coil overs set to a baseline, sag, ride height, spring setting etc? The manual and the dealer setup manual don’t have much of anything.

Or what have people done on here for initial measurements etc?

1st day snow was so deep including the trail up I couldn’t notice any issues. Yesterday snow was a bit wind blown and setting up so could really feel I need to make some changes but don’t necessarily believe coils were set proper from the factory before I start messing with it. Especially given my buddy’s 20 HC’s springs were in a completely different position than mine and hadn’t been touched. Makes me think they’re just thrown together and slapped on sled without a generic baseline preload.

Thanks

I think cat changed setup from 2019 hardcore to 2020 hardcore,2019 fells stiffer on click 1 than 2020 on click 2 same preload
some is from dual to monorail but not all.

Seems like cat changed rear sping from 235lb 2019 to 175lb 2020 quite a step
front and center spring is same part nr but no longer available seems strange.

Ok, have a starting point. Once I got a tape on my front coils they were set 5/8” different from each other for preload, not good. To get the baseline I found below, one had to be tightened 1/4” the other 7/8”. Which is way too soft, which is what I could feel riding once out of deep snow and it was more set up.

Here’s what I’ve found:

Preload free sag should be ~20% of your travel. Front travel is 7” rear is 14-15”. So basically front free sag is 1.4” rear 3”. I measured from the tip of hood over the front bumper and just off rear bumper. This would be the baseline I was looking for, you adjust from there based on weight and riding plus the clickers. Loaded sag for front is not enough to measure so nothing to do there. Rear sag deals with suspension with torsion adjustment, the gizmo on twin rails that usually has 3 positions, alpha doesn’t have that (that I can see??).

Make sure on flat ground that skid lays flat front to back as well. If front is off ground limiter strap needs to be looser, if rear is off ground front could be set too loose.

See what happens this weekend, but at least I have a starting point without spending hours turning springs up and down just to get started.

I've rode 85 miles on my HC 2020 and had one day straight trail and one day deep powder. Found this already and haven't jumped or hit anything (see pic). Front track shock was on #2. I never felt it bottom out or anything but obviously it has.

In the exact right scenario, the limiter strap can rotate and position the upper limiter strap bolt in between the arm and rail. I havent been able to verify thats what is breaking the rail but all the broken rails ive seen have had the front broken down, not up. I remove the upper bolt and replace with zip ties. All that bolt does is keep the strap from flopping.
