Cobalt Cycles Third Shock Mount for Timbersled

Cobalt Cycles in Granite Falls, WA makes a third shock mount that is half the cost of TSS if you are on a budget and want to remove ski pressure or have the riding performance of the TSS system.

When used with a linkage shock the spring rate is about the same as used on a dirt bike swingarm. I have it on my CR500AF 14 kit and riding it I can't tell a difference between it and the TSS. I am sprung for desert racing and it works very well. 100% improvement over a strut, I cannot believe how much more fun these bikes are!!! Joe is working on a bridle for KTM PDS shocks right now, should have one for non-linkage bikes by next week.

If you have any motor build requests he is very knowledgeable as well. he ported and completely built my CR500AF up. The porting job he did is really top notch, butt dyno feels like ~70HP.

What are you using for a shock and what happens at the swing arm mount bushing wise?

M5

It uses the stock bike shock. I just grease the original TS bushings. Got another ride in today, the bike really rips. Came down pretty hard a few times and the 3rd shock kept me from face planting. That 155" track lays a deep trench, I wasn't able to get it stuck, it would trench down 4ft and then climb straight out.

500 power.

The shock mount seems like a solid idea. It looks overly complicated for what is probably actually needed but I like the style. Maybe there is a purpose for the extras other than style, would be nice to hear it if that is the case.

Ok now we're talking, what is the list of bikes this would fit on? Like FE 570, 450, 390 Husabergs (70* degree engines)? How much modification? Do the majority of stock shocks have enough adjustment and stiffness for the weight and mass of the TS Kits?

Right now any linkage bike will work with this kit. Basically any MX valved/sprung shock will work. I sprung and valved my whole bike for high speed desert racing and it seems just right.

I just dropped off a KTM 450SX PDS bike to get fitted out for the third shock kit, which looks like it will work well.

The 70deg bergs would need subframe clearance work as the shock takes a similar angle to the 2Moto kits, and the subframe sticks down too far. If you are willing to modify your subframe it will work. Otherwise Cobalt might be able to come up with an alum subframe if you brought your bike in.

I am itchy all over, just smacking my lips with anticipation if this will work on my Berg or not because if it does, Santa will be picking it up in his sled PDQ, no overpriced, over inflated, hand pumping pissy assed tss for me. I do not have a problem hacking off the plastic tab on the subframe. How about chain issues, where are you at with that geometrical nightmare, just a heavy duty tensioner welded or bolted?? Lets get riding here I need more cushin for the pushin, maybe I will call Dave at Cobalt in the morning. A trip down WASHINGTON way might just be in order, lets get this party started.:spider:

If you don't mind cutting into your flap on the subframe it will work. Cobalt has a spring chain tensioner that eliminates slack through the suspension range. You just need a 13T or larger CS sprocket.

I have a 70 degree berg as well, and while the TSS just means removing a very small lower tab on the subframe - this mounting looks like it would A LOT more cutting based on the location.

It seems similar to how the SX was mounted? More horizontal vs. vertical if that makes sense.

I'm not sure at all, but just be aware that this may not work without substantial cutting of our subframes

So when is this gonna be available

It depends on what make and model of bike you have. Ktm, Husqvarna, Husaberg etc. have PDS shocks that mount offset onto bike and the stock swingarm, which make them more difficult to retrofit. The Japanese bikes are more straight forward and have less Geometrical complications to deal with. Everything right now is custom until a baseline (template) can be established for each Manufacturer and model#. The situation right now is fluid and the R&D is ongoing. Think of it as having to make up all the different fit kits for the timbersled kits based on what bike you have, but involving more parts and welding. Patience snow(grass)hopper patience.
