Coalmont Snow Conditions 2011-1012

HI everybody.... time for me to start the winter snow thread for Coalmont.... We have had several early snowfalls this year, and low overnight temperatures (-12*C this morning) have prevented it melting.... We currently have 10" of snow in our front yard in beautiful downtown Coalmont.... Snowmobiles are becoming a common sight already (oops, one just drove by!) in town.... I haven't spoken to anyone who has gone up towards Lodestone yet.... but when we were out hunting in late October, there was already a few inches of snow on the roads, and enough to make Lodestone inaccessable by ATV....

We have had a couple of milder days in Coalmont, just above freezing so that snow has compacted a bit.... Yesterday early morning saw about 3" of snow which added to the base.... We currently have 9" of snow in our front yard, the roads are ploughed, and it's a beautiful sunny morning at -2*C....

Still no reports of the amount of snow at Lodestone....

No new snow to report, but some guests let us know that there is about 2 feet of hardpack up at Lodestone.... 7" on the ground in Coalmont and the current temperature is -6*C....

We had some wet snow in Coalmont overnight, but our guests report that it was snowing hard up at Lodestone last night and the conditions were great.... There was about 18" of powder on top of a base of over two feet, and he estimated the total amount of snow at four feet.... They had a blast and stayed an extra night !!!

Currently snowing in Coalmont and -6*C.... We have 16" of snow in town.... I haven't talked to any sledders about the conditions up the mountain for a while....

Lots of snow over the past few days.... There is now 19" of snow on the ground in Coalmont, and the temperature is -18*C (0*F).... The recent snowfall has been light and powdery but lots of it....

Another big dump of snow last night.... we've had over 10" in the last week.... It's currently -3*C in Coalmont with 23" of snow on the ground in our front yard.... and the sun is shining....

Is there a map available for te wipsaw riding area? We will be in Tulameen this weekend and I would like to ride the area.

The local Club has a map of the trails and it's available from the General Store in Tulameen.... It has very little detail, however.... It covers the whole area from the Coquihalla to Whipsaw....

Talked to the manager at the Coal Mine yesterday.... He says there is over 4 feet of snow on the level at the mine with drifts that are "grader deep".... Altitude there is 4000 ft....

We stayed up a Coquihalla Lakes lodge this past weekend while we took our AST 1 Avalanche course up the mountain (thanks Niko, top notch course)
We rode over to the Coalmont Hotel Saturday night and they treated us to a top notch roast beef dinner.

Starting to clear now, we had about 4" of new snow this morning.... about 15" on the ground now with a 12" compact base in town.... No reports from up the mountain lately, but I'm sure there is lot's of snow up high as we still have a lot on the ground for this time of year....
