Clutching...Think I'm headed in the wrong direction..

Looks like she's slipping hard in the middle, and not getting full shift. Just trying some different stuff. Right now I am toying with the MDS weights and where to place the "bulk" of the weight.

This sled is a strange monster, it is like if you get the thing clutched to where you hit 8400+ on the road it is dialed for the hills. If you try and tame it down with weight it will maintain an RPM on the trails and in the steep and deep but it feels like it pulls better, then you get a primary looking like this!

Yup, you can credit Poos dual angle sheaves for that. Get the Carl's mod and they machine the offset sheavesto the belt angle = NO MORE SLIP! It works and my clutches are so cool that I haven't even bothered with the Holz vents I've bought!

Have FUN!

I did have that! My primary clutch shaft broke, got a new one under warranty and that was the end of that! $160.00 down the crapper!!

This may help..

Take a Fat Black marker Sharpie!!

Mark two Lines.. Opposite each other..

From bottom to top on Both clutches..

then you have a point to look

and see what and where it is shifting to..

a thought..

Look close Matt, there are lines on the clutch. You can see it's not shifting out!

Is that the new one tho without the sheave mod? Did you get warranty thru Carl's? I'd be surprised if they didn't try to work with you on some sort of cost compromise! What belt and how much deflection are you running? Clutches staying dry? If all that is ruled out and everything in good shape then it's definitley a clutch weight issue. Are you SURE the cam arms move FREELY? Could you have loaded them too much (or installed the adjustable washers wrong) so they rub on the spider? After adding bulk of the weight at the pivot, try more weight in the center. Too much weight in the tips can pull the cams down and cause top end slip.

Have FUN!

That is the new clutch without mod..

Deflection is good, arms move freely! This was adding most of the weight at the mid section. I have had the best results with the bulk of the weight in the tip so far, I am going to keep trying stuff I can always go back.

Any more info the MDS wts?
Did you get them dialed?

Anyone else running them...hell I'll start a new topic to try for more direct attention...

I now have everything figured out, sled runs perfect and no wear or excesive heat.

So what is your current setup? Altitude etc.

I'm battling excessive heat

6500-9000 feet

Polaris 10-60 weights, Team Yellow spring in primary
Blk/ purple spring in secondary

1115 belt

Here is a PM I had just sent!

I will give you what I am doing and it is working very well for now..

On the weights I have the hollow screw with flat washer in the tip. Then I have a 1/4" set screw in the middle (does not come with weights). You have to peen the hole and use loctite so they won't fall out.

For clutching I have stock springs, 2 delrens and I am using the Carl's helix, I think it has a 42 finish rate. The last key thing I found was to use an SLP shim behind the spring retainer on the secondary clutch, really brings it to life. I hit 8,300-8,400 on the trail and hold consistant 8,150-8,200 on climbs. Belt stays cool and doesn't wear.

This set up is killing the old 09D8, even with the new PMS kit and extra ponies. It is worth a try, especially if you already have the Carl's helix!
