Clutching Question

I was in Cooke all last week riding my IQR mountain for the first time. On the trail I could turn 8200-8300 RPM but when I was climbing I could only turn 7500rpm. I am pretty sure that it is my secondary slipping as it was EXTREMELY hot. I just don't know what to change in it. Here is my setup:

800 Non-ves, CPI single pipe, POD filters, 144 track
Primary- almond/Red, 51.5 gram weights
Secondary- 66.44.46 with black/red spring
Gearing - 21-45

In the secondary you can see where the belt was slipping as it left some black marks on the inside of the clutch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

51 grams seem really light for that motor.
I would start with maybe a 160-240 secondary purple black spring.
60 gram weights if its between 6000 to 8000 ft higher 58 grams.

Oops!! Did not see the part about the pods. I agree with Sled guy on this one.

You are killing it with sucking under hood heat in to the pod filters. On the trail it a)isn't loaded as heavy and b) has better air flow.

Put an airbox on it and suck air from outside the hood and then add about 8 grams of weight.

I was running 66 gr weights with pods.

Not in Cooke City at the top of a big climb. :)

I have heard rumors that some people get Polaris twins to run with pods... just never seen it myself and I've seen too many of the opposite to count.

Regardless, 51.5gr is WAY light for that motor and helix combo.

Ran like a clock. 151 HP and 101.7 ft lbs of torque.

Put a 64-40 in there and 60 or 62 grams leave the spring alone and it will work great.

Sorry, I was out of town for the weekend.

I will try that next year. But here in MN i am only running 60 gram weights in the same setup and it pulls hard. I am turning 7900-8000 rpm here.

I guess I don't understand why this sled won't turn heavier weights. Everyone says that I should be running heavier weights, but when I do my RPM's just go down and it is boggy.

Here is my MN setup

P= 60 gram weights Almond/red spring
S= 66.44.46 Black/red spring
480 Main jets

My next question is, why do I have to drop so low in jetting when in Cooke? I am at a 480 in MN and a 270 in Cooke and it still was running FAT. Is it because I don't have an air box?

I agree I need an Air box, but I still haven't been able to locate a stock one. By adding an airbox instead of filters, I don' see how I will be able to run 8 grams heavier weights. I can see that helping with keeping my rpm's constant on a hill climb. Am I thinking wrong?
