clutching question anyone test helix angles ? on a pro

i am having a 400 rpm diff from bottom to top,i have a 13 pro looking for a helix that brings up rpm a bit more on the bottom, the snow conditions in sask this year r amazing and pulling so hard im droping to 7800 under full load any help would be great thanx

I can't tell you how manys revs you'll gain or lose but a flatter finish angle will help keep your r's up on top. I've got a Carl's helix at 64/38 that is killer at 7500 plus ft. What's your elev and setup currently?

thanx for the reply,i ride 1500 feet i currently have mds weights but my tip is loaded and need to get finish rpm down and bring up starting rpm so i can take some weight out of the weights or atleast make them a bit more even,as i have a 400 rpm diff from 0-15 mph to 30 plus it builds rpm,i have been trying to find a softer primary spring to help me out with this a bit i currently have 100 290 in there was thinking 114 267 cat one would help as all the low finish rate ones from team epi and other brands all back ordered ,thanx

I had the same issue. I know moving the weight to the heel will fix it but I think your right about a softer primary spring. im going to try it this weekend.

If you are trying to increase your engagement rpm and finish rpm you need a stiffer primary spring. I would recommend sticking close to the stock spring rate, which is 140/330. I personally like the team lime green 150/340 or the slp blue pink 140/340. Remember, the higher the spring pressure, the MORE rpm you will have. Also if you want more RPM at peak, take weight away from the tip and more towards the heel. Here is a great chart with most of the springs, weights, and helixes available for Polaris

And as for your back shifting issue, I still like to stick as close as possible to stock also. What helix I think would be great is a 58/38/.36 with the stiff team black/lime green 180/300 to get the clutch to back shift quickly. You will suffer a little bit on top end speed, but it will give you great bottom end and back shift.
Hope this helps

pro rpm loss

Hi i have a pro also and to fix that low revs is easy , just go to a heavier spring in your secondary clutch,
i believe the one to go to is a red and the weight is 140 / 280
that will cure your problem ,, if u put in a shallow helix it will work but will be much slower on excceleration , don't want that ,lol

smiles

thanx guys but what i need is more rpm on bottom with zero change on top or less on top if possible to adjust my weights a bit i am maxed out on the tip running 8300 now with this deep snow and 7900-8 on bottom, what its doing is building rpm the faster i go smashes 8 then builds to 8300 just trying to even the shift and stay in hp torque curve, so i finally found a 100-275 spring wich will lower my finish rate by 15 lbs hoping to c 100 rpm drop so i can take some weight off the weights if possible or like u say add a larger secondary spring with a stiffer starting and same finish rate would also do what im looking at doing and increase back shift for even crazier catwalks ,thanx for all the replies i think im on track here thanx a lot peeps, so what is stock spring in the 13 secondary ? i think this is my next step to not spending big cash on helix

mds

Call Steve
Have him send you his turbo weights. You can then go back to the stock spring. I did the same thing with lower and lower spring rates. To the point that my engagement got so lower I was eating belts.

ok thanx i might have to do that did your sled get lazy with alot more weight in there though ?

weight

Yes. At one point I was up to 76.3 grams and my rpms were still to high and I lost back shift. Steve sent me out his turbo weights set at 73.4 grams and my sled is now dailed in. They work great...
