Clutching guru's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What shift ratio do manufacturers base there optimum offset on? Is it 1:1? Do the primary and secondary shift out at the same rate so when your offset is correct, it's correct from idle to wot? One last thing if you gear down a signifigant amount will this change your optimum offset? What's got me thinking of this is cat's m's with 57/63 from 05 and up run 1.655 offset and the new m8 at 55/65 has offset of 1.507:face-icon-small-sho

I think your confused.

Yep, unless the primary and secondary sheave angles are identical, there will only be one point in the ratio when the belt runs in perfect alignment.....the TRA has a progressive angle on the sheaves so that further complicates things.
I have no idea what point in the shift ratio that each mfr's alignment specs are based on. Some guys get real in-depth on aligning to the approx. ratio they run when climbing since that is where they want it to work the best....makes sense.
IMO, on most sleds the engine moves so much that getting alignment "close" is good enough.
"floating" the secondary in an effort to constantly maintain proper offset is pretty common and in alot of cases seems to help.....but if the secondary binds on the splines under tortion (and it will), it may be further out of alignment alot of the time than a "fixed" secondary.
