Clutching and gearing for '13 M8's

Greetings all! I'm new to the forum, I've been a member of Hardcore Sledder for years now, but I never seem to get any answers to the questions I ask, so here I am, hoping there are a few more people with Proclimb M8 tuning experience here...

Just got my new '13 M8 Ltd., I have some tuning q's.

Stock setup, the primary comes with 65 g weights (I think?) and yellow spring, secondary has black spring and 36 deg. helix. Has the 084 belt. I'm not too sure about stock gearing...

So far what I'm hearing for clutching is:
  • 0-3000' - 75 g weights with 42/40 helix
  • +3000' - 65 to 70 g weights with stock 36.
But I'm also hearing a lot about guys using different spings, some guys run stock, others use a purple spring in primary, and orange spring in secondary. I even read somewhere a guy changed his primary spring with the same results as putting in a 42/40.

Gearing - not too sure what people are using? Stock? 20T top gear?? I'm lost...

Looking for awesome low-mid range, good top-end and improved up/back shifting. I ride most of the time in the flat lands, trying to find the deep snow wherever I can, 1600' elevation, but plan on making a few mountain trips too, elevation about 7000'. I'd like to hit at least 95 mph on the lakes, and like to have a setup where I'd get the best of both worlds and wouldnt have to change anything but weights.

Any help I'd appreciate it! And mention any other mods u've made, I'm all ears...

I put a 20T gear in my 2013 so will see what it is like?? I sounds like lots of people switched to a 20T gear and even guys with 2012's say it is a good change!!

I too am running a 20t top this year.

But be aware that a good portion of the gents on this forum are climbing mtns not lake racing. IMO you should keep the 21t top to maintain your top speed for lake racing at low alt.

I get the thought that he is not lake racing if he is in the proclimb forum... well id hope not.
i am trying an orange secondary spring with a 20t top gear 42/40 helix and 75g weights (low elevation kit) should be able to get your dealer to install a low elevation kit free of cost.

Use the leverage that they sold you a sled at a sea level dealership.... so in that case they should be aquiring a low elevation kit. i have told others to do this and they got positive results. ;)
goodluck.
I am also curious about what kid of setup i could adjust my primary too, wondering if i should go with adjustable weights and some other kind of spring? any info would be great.

I guess you missed that.

I wouldnt consider 95 mph racing speed, maybe with an M? I'm coming off a crossfire 7 that went 114. But would still love to spank some summit's and rmk's here! There's more long-tracks on the prairies than a guy would think

I'll bring the low el. kit up with my dealer, but i'm not expecting too much tho, they're new to me and i here they can be pricks, but they were the only cat dealer in 100 miles. My ltd. was 13,050 CAD (no electric start) plus tax, freight, etc. from what i'm hearing, thats top dollar too. Ordered a tether, extra belt n plugs, weights, pads and rack and they charged me 200 to install them, shouldnt that have been a gimme?? what r other canadians payin?

Whats all included in the low el. kit? 75 g weights and the 42/40? Appreciate all the feedback guys, keep them comin

so whats the best price you've heard?

$200 bucks to install the stuff is about right, but depends on what you paid for the accessories. Depending on what you paid for freight/psi. 13,050 is a good deal in canada. Hard to pay employees and keep the doors open at that. we are $12,985 plus freight which is the best I've heard in SK so u did well. Can't drive to swifty for $65 bucks. Enjoy your new ride! You'll love it. I'm doing 20T gear, 7 tooth drivers and mds weights in my 162 ltd this year. Any questions don't hesitate to give me a shout. Happy sledding! -Cody

dons speed parts in wainwright ab was the cheapest i found.

$13350 + GST. thats it.

lloydminister was the next cheapest at $13400 + GST.
