Clutch setup? Crossfire 8 153" -07

My pal bought slightly wrecked Crossfire 8 -07 just couple of days ago. He will update the track and suspension into -09 stylish and 153" long. Track will be with 2.25" lugs.

Engine is stock but he may put Y-pipe and pipe into it. Does timing key work in 8? What other simple mods can be made without fuel box?

We are wondering the clutch setup where to start. We live about 1000ft and max elevation will be around 3000ft. Mainly we drive at 1000-1500ft and mostly in the woods with 3-5 ft of snow. Gearing is 60/60 and it will not be changed but all clutching parts will/can be changed. Secondary will be torsional type.

So we are needing some good info of setups. Does anybody have similar sled?

Would progressive helix work in boondocking or should it be straight? I'm thinking about 42/38 helix. Also weights: There will be CPC adjustables, but how much base weight would be good?

Thanx.

Crossfire 8 --153"

Depending on the size of the guy,200#+,IMO would definitly gear it to M-7,8 ratio. His 153" -2.25 track in 3 to5 ft of snow will be too tall causing un-wanted heat. We run srtraight 38* helixes around here (Revelstoke),but with lots of wieght in the primary when rideing at your elevation. The 07`s are pretty rich, extra breathing helps, more flowrites,y-pipe,etc..be careful whose pipe you use if you don`t want to run a fuel controller,,, stck works good @ 7700 to 7800 rpm . Hope this helps.

Progressive helix`s

They may work good in some set-ups. I have tryed alot of them, find that all of us keep going back to straight 38*. Forgot to mention that we are all useing the D&D torsional setup(cat-red/white spring in middle hole). D&D gives you a tool (adjusting bar) for field adjustment, work slick. Also in all our testing, make sure you run your belt deflection fiarly tight, tight enough that it almost squeals at idle. The m-8`s & 1000`s`need this for best performance, they don`t pull down or hunt as must at full throttle.Again hope this helps. Still alot snow here, riding today, sun burn city.
