i was just reading through a 07 service manual and it say to use green loctite 620 for the set screws on the weights then it says it again in a warning box. i went to loctite website it says 620 is for non threaded slip fit has anybody used this stuff i have had my set screws come loose on me a few times throwing out a roller just looking for some input thanx

I always use blue loctite and never had a problem. I live in MN so im always switching back and forth without issues

I hate them set screws. If you strip one out your screwed. And with that small allen wrench you can not torque them very much. I wasted a day of riding because of a loose set screw. I could'nt get it tight enough to hold. So I went the the hardware store and found the thread is standard and I got a screw with the round head that accepts a 9/64 size allen wrench. They torque nicely and hold tight. Not to mention I will be able to remove them without stripping that little set screw with ease when I change weights tuning. With the bottom of the screw head slightly above the weight there are no clearance issues on the top. Best Mod I ever did. What was AC thinking?

It sounds like you are not using heat to loosen the locktite before you attempt to turn the set screws. At the local hardware store I got a small butane torch for $10 that seems to work well. My other torch had way too big of flame so I got the smaller one. Anyway - with a little heat those set screws are sure easier to deal with - put the flame on the screw and then count to 20. Then try the allen wrench on it. If it still is tight, heat it some more.

hey do u have any pics of those screws u didnt have any trouble getting them to seat in the divot in the pin thanx

Your right I didn't apply enough heat. I was afraid of getting it too hot. By the time I relized i didn't apply enough heat I had that tiny thing buggered up. If you have the touch you should be able to do it alright. My luck just isn't very good with little things that require finess. The set screws seem to not be rounded enough on the bottom to fit in the groove. My custom screws had a nice rounded bottom that fit the groove perfect. Good luck guys.

One more hint, take note of how much of the set screw is supposed to be sticking up when it is fully seated. If you don't have it dead on, it will feel like it is bottomed out, but might not be. On mine, it has only about a finger nail width proud of the weight when fully seated.

left hand drill bit gets those stripped set screws out in a jiffy...creates its own heat as well ..and if ya get the bit size approx hex key size the threads stay usable...as long as ya drill straight

AC Clutch Screw Mod

Heres some pictures of the screws I used. I should note that I change my weights occasionly depending on the boost I run so having these screws made it easier for my needs. But I used 8/32 thread screws with the 9/64 hex wrench. I took and shortened them by putting two nuts on grinding the excess off then take off the outer nut and grind to the desired roundness. Then taking off the last nut cleans the threads. I used red lock tight to finish. Once I had the screws set I made sure there were no clearance issues. I found I had plenty of room on my 2007 TM8. Not for everybody but it works for me.
Note: Obviously the screw in the picture is not the modified one. Its the size I started with to shorten. These heavier screws may effect the function of the clutch weight because of the added screw. So it could shift different, who knows? With the turbo I haven't noticed any difference.
