Clutch question

I feel dumb asking this. I have an 06 Summit 800. Where the heck is the marking on the primary clutch backing plate thing to line up the clutch when I put it back on? It was easy to find on my ZX when I had it. This is the first time I have had the clutch off and I thought it would be easier to find it. I guess I should ask what does it look like. This is the last thing I have to do and I am set for Grand Mesa at the end of the week. Thanks.

Just looked in my manual and for the assembly process it doesn't mention having to line up the 2 halves at all, just slip em together and torque it down.

I have also heard that each component is seperatly balanced so no need to re-balance the entire thing, just what I heard so take it for what it's worth.

Now the spring cup and components in the sliding half do have to be aligned correctly, they are generally well marked however.

Thank you FNG. Yes I have both of the outer halves lined up. I spent probably 15 minutes turning the inner piece around and I cannot locate a marking on it. It does not appear to be completely like my clutch from my ZX (all 3 pieces hard marks). I have a manual for a ZX but not for a Rev yet. Still makes me mad that I did not mark it with a sharpie. Was not my intention to pull both halves off. But in the process of pulling just the part that slides out, the whole clutch came off. So I should have marked it just to be safe. I ended up using a very small mark as the marker, it was to perfect of a scratch to be a scratch. It slid on so I used it and torqued it. Need to run it and retorque. I just want to make sure so I do not wreck anything.

Delo there is a small notch about a quarter of an inch down on the back of the fixed half of the clutch, its on a casting ring.

There is a great video on youtube on rev primary clutches.. Thats what I used the first time I pulled mine apart and found myself scratching my head! LOL

Getting very frustrated with something so simple. Thanks 907 but the videos have the clutches marked with a sharpie. I figured out the gear thing on the back of the inside part is for electric start.

Well I do not feel so bad knowing that someone else did it, lol. Thanks powderhoundbrr :face-icon-small-hap. Well I have been talking to different people and I finally broke down and called a dealer and spoke to the service department. He said some of the backing plates had a notch out of it and some don't. I said really - yes was his answer. Well that would explain why I cannot find the notch that I saw on my other sled. If there was something there I should have seen it by now with how much I have been looking at this for the last 3 days. So I am going to torque the clutch tonight and drive slowly up and down the street and run it and watch the clutch to see if it is out of balance.

The 06 does have a small notch on it as well. If you have electric start it is had to see it between the two of them, but it does have a notch.

Thanks Dynamo^Joe that is exactly what I needed to see and I found it about 2 minutes before reading your post. My problem now is getting the clutch off again so I can line it up. Any suggestions. Got the bolt out and pulling like crazy but not moving at all. This hole process is taking me way too long. But I am learning so next time will take the proper amount of time. Trying to tap on it with a rubber mallet but not working.

Get a SKI-DOO clutch puller not a cheap-o one, and put a small spot of grease on the end and it will pop right off after you tighten the puller up pretty good, just be ready to catch it.

I don't believe I need a clutch puller, I am not trying to pull the sheave (if that is the correct term) off. What is stuck is the 2 parts that slide together to make 1, the part that has the clickers in it. Shouldn't I just be able to pull the bolt out and the clutch should just slide off? At least that is how I did it on my other sled.

TRA 2, 3 - only!!!!!
...sometimes they do.
...sometimes they don't.
...and when they don't they are usually damn hard to take off and can only be done by removing clutch off engine.

Now after the sheave has been off a few times, then yeah they can come off quite easily.

Well I broke down and bought the $60 bolt to remove the clutch. Was cheaper than having someone do it for me. So hopefully it should come off and then I can separate to the pieces. Thanks
Dynamo^Joe.

Yes I got it apart. Should have just bought the bolt 3 days ago. This would have been less stressfull. Thanks for all the help. Thank you Dynamo^Joe.
