Clutch Guru's - See Any Damage???

Primary spring broke on 09 Pump Gas Dragon. Had to ride it out that way for 15 miles or so. When I removed the cover the spider retaining nut was finger tight and had a few nicks from the broken piece bouncing around.

Can I just re-torque the spider nut or do the pics show enough damage that it should be replaced? If I replace, do I need to re-balance. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. EW

Anyone running Titanium instead of these?

i personally would run it as well, doesnt look to bad. as far as the TI springs i've been pondering the same option myself as i seem to break 4 or 5 springs a year. if you do try them out let me know if you think they are worth the coin.

I think I can get a Ti in 165/300. Is that near what you run in yours? EW

IMO...I agree with Kinzer and 'Breeze...Run it!

Clean up the burrs.... Retorque the spider to 300 ft lbs and the jamb nut to 300 ft lbs with locktite 242 (God that seems tight doesn't it?)

Install the cover and torque the cover bolts to 110 INCH lbs.

Then check for smooth sliding operation.

The RCS Ti primary spring that would be the replacement for the SLP 170-300 orange/silver spring is Part number CCT-A-165-310 165-310 It may engage just a hair sooner.

Remember that the SLP springs are rated at 2.50" & 1.25".... if you take it down to 1.19" like most other spring ratings (Polaris, Team, RCS, EPI etc).. the final force will be closer to 310 lbs. ... which is why that RCS 165-310 will be a good replacement in Ti.

At this time... It would be a good idea to change the secondary spring as well... yours has a 180-280 [blacke/orange] on it....although I dont see any Ti secondary springs on the RCS site or in the "sale" Ti secondary springs at Team (they stopped carrying Ti springs and are blowing them out...but not the one you need).

Speedwerx does carry some higher quality
Speedwerx H5 Alloy Clutch Springs
CCH5-J-180-280 - Black/Orange (180-280) $39.95 - Black/Orange (180-280) $39.95 which I've heard good things about.

From the 2008 Polaris service manual
Spider Torque
All Except 800 CFI = 200 - 225 Ft.Lbs. (271 - 305 Nm)
Apply Loctite 620 to Threads.
800 CFI = 280 - 300 Ft.Lbs. (380 - 407 Nm)
Apply Loctite 242 to Threads.

Spider Jam Nut Torque
All Except 800 CFI = 225 - 250 Ft.Lbs. (305 - 339 Nm)
Apply Loctite 620 to Threads.
800 CFI = 290 - 310 Ft.Lbs. (393 - 420 Nm) - Apply
Loctite 242 to Threads.

I prolly could have done 300 ft lbs when I weighed 420 myself. Now I think my feet are just gonna spin and the spider won't move. Maybe you could come tighten it for me lardo. lol.

No food or drink after midnight, good luck man. Thanks for the info. EW

i've been running a 180-320 in mine having good luck, even a gold for a little bit but it didnt seem to make much of a difference at 180-345. now that i'm lowering my boost levels down in the 8-9lbs range tho my clutching needs some work. 15lbs is a little different than 9. i dropped two grams on the weights and went back to the pink 180-320 for this weekend. still running the straight 48 helix though... trying to tell myself its worth the money to go to a 42-46
