Clutch engagement issues '08 700 rmk

Got a couple questions for all you guys that know clutches... Just finished cleaning my clutches and putting new bushings in my weights. Took it out for a spin in the field and it felt like the clutch was engaging at a very high RPM and just overall it felt "off". Took it in to the shop, put it on the stand and reved it a couple times, then the primary seemed to "lock up" and not let go of the belt. Shut it down and felt the clutch sheaves, couldn't touch 'em as they were very hot. Let it cool down a little bit, ran it again on the stand, no issues. Did that a dozen or so times and never had the primary stick again. What would cause this? My rollers seemed ok, no vertical slop and they all rolled pretty easily.

Also, my clutch engaged at around 4100 rpm, is this normal or a little high? Seems like my dads 08 700 engaged at a much lower rpm (3400ish) and was much smoother to get the sled moving. My deflection is set at about 1". The grooves on the top of the belt are just above the secondary.

Maybe you just had a piece of dirty or something that caused it to bind up after the rebuild?

Did you replace just the weight bushings or also the moveable sheave bushings?

I only replaced the weight bushings, did it with the clutch still on the sled. Could it have just needed to "break in" after cleaning and replacing the bushings?

No break-in needed. After replacing the bushings your weights swing at a good 90 degree angle to the pins I assume? One of the things that happens when those weight bushing wear is the weight swings at like 85 degrees, gouges the spider, and can hang up. I would not expect that to be a problem with new weight pin bushings.
