clutch cleaning

what is the best way to clean clutches after their removed. What do you use to get the clutch clean. And is there any special way of doing it

Toss em in the dishwasher if the wife's not home.

All the writeups I've seen mention 180 grit sandpaper or 3M scotchbrite, and then finish with a good scrub using water as hot as you can stand and some detergent. Petroleum products (carb cleaner/brake cleaner) are a no-no on the aluminum faces as it won't clean the rubber particles off without getting stuff into the pores of the metal.
