Clutch Blew my Side Panel apart!!

I'm a big powder turn freak and I was doing real high lean turns to my left and heard a pop and my belt slipped. Upon inspection of my XP I realized the panel had been pushed into my clutch and it finally wore through and caught the plastic and blew a hole in it!! My question is how do I prevent this from happening again. It will break again if I throw a new panel on it I'm sure of it. I was thinking of putting a thin plate of steel on the inside so if the clutch and secondary hit the panel it won't wear through it. However I don't want the clutches hitting it at all if I can help it. Those panels deflect so easy I don't see any way of preventing it from pushing into the clutch.. Anybody have this problem or ideas on how to fix this? And no I won't stop powder turning!:D

Install a vent kit. It helped my sled tremendously and the frame on the kit is real sturdy. I was doing deep powder carving last week and I had zero problems. My kit was from JT Sports and it was less than 1/2 the price of the other kits (mine was a 5 piece). I'll try to get some pics for you if you want to see them.

Hey PJ, I got a vent kit on it already.. dunno, maybe yours reinforces the panel more.. I just really lean it over. I guess I should expect it. I did the same thing to my rev.. I was also thinking of making a frame to support it..

have the same problem on my poo I just got an extra side panel and turn more the other way now!

Ya, it reinforces the panel. The vents are pretty beefy and I think that the area that you are talking about on the side panel is cut out for my vents. Sorry, tried to help ya. I lean mine over a lot too! Oh well, just a thought.

Sylvan......I'm curious if the old plastic part of the belt guard being in place would've kept the primary bolt head from hogging your side panel? I put mine back in my '07 after noticing it was gouging my panel when doing hard side turns.......just vented the h#ll out of it(the guard that is) and called it good. Just a thought.

That big black plastic clutch guard that you took out to save weight on the XP..... well put it back on!!

I ride with three other guys with XP's. I know for a fact two of them pulled the black plastic plastic clutch guard out. One guy is on his second side panel and the other guy has a nice hole slowly burning through the side panel. I read something about this on dootalk and as a last minute thing I decided to leave the black clutch guard on just to see if It would not burn a hole in the side panel. Sure enough the only mark on the inside of the panel is where the black clutch guard hits and the clutch does not hit anywhere. All of us spend our days zig zagging around the hill.

Cheers
Shawn
