Clutch Bad?

I have an 06 Crossfire 600 and my son was pulling it into the garage after ripping up the driveway. I already talked to a good friend who is a wrench head and he is telling me the clutch is grenaded. The discussion was over the phone so I thought I would post here since everything "looks" ok.

When it happened he was barely moving. The sled just stopped. I looked at the primary and it was closed. So, I reached down and pulled it open with ease. In fact, it just slide open the entire way and stopped almost at the end of the shaft. When I tried to push it closed it wouldn't budge. I took the cover off and tried to seperate the sheave from the spider. No go. I gentley took a hammer and moved it back onto the shaft. It went but not easy. The spider and the sheave separated enough that I could check the arms and they swing fine and are not loose. The spider has no cracks, nothing. It is almost as if there is something on the shaft the is "binding" (for lack of a better word) the sheave from sliding on the shaft.

Obviously I am not a clutching expert and I am going to pull it tomorrow but it's on of those things that just bothers me.

The sled fires up fine but the clutch is so tight on the shaft it won't close since it is binded on the shaft. At least that is what I am seeing.

Any ideas?

sounds like the bushing. It cost me $30 to have mine replaced when I took the clutch to the shop.

That's what I was thinking as well. If you look at the driven clutch schema it looks like #12. They call it a nut but from the schema it looks to me like a bushing..

I assume we're looking that the drive clutch not driven, #12 looks like the spider nut to me, I don't see the bushing. Of course, the clutch this happened to me on was a polaris, but I'd assume cats have a replaceable bushing too.

Here's the deal. The bushing on the inside of the sheave was dirty with belt dust. Took it to a cat dealer since I couldn't get the spider off without a special tool. A little bit of sand paper should do the trick and back in business.

Just thought I would post a resolution since I don't like reading threads and getting to the end and all you get is........
