clutch alignment

I removed and replaced my motor and now I seem to go through belts pretty easily - I'm on #4 this season. 2 were old and 2 were new. they disintergate into small chunks.

I have both front and rear engine stops

what is the smart way to align your clutches.

the manual says check offeset - set .060 or below (shimming the secondary in and out)

check parallelism - measurement of front edge of primary to alignment tool compared to rear edge of primary to alignment tool. the difference should be 0 to .060 with the front edge being the longer measurement.

when you get this you are supposed to move the snubber to have a gap of .060... shouldnt this be snug against the motor?

then adjust belt deflection.

0 - .060 deflection

is the distance of 12.5" not important as long as you meet the belt deflection?

okay here is the problem - nobody carries the aligment tool....is there a way to dd it for a ride Tuesday? I'm ordering the tool.

I recently swapped motors in my 01 Mtn cat and have similiar questions. The align is rough set at the moment and I ate a belt today. Its confusing because my factory manual suggests that there is suppose to be a .060" gap between the snubber and the engine mount. Perhaps the snubber really is used only to align the clutches???

As for the tool, I have one that I had made at work on a XY CNC table (which doesn't help you by tuesday). But I can tell you that accurating measuring the offset with the tool is kind of a pain. You need either a small set of calipers or a small scale.

Good luck.

you can cheat and just add a few more washer to the secondary and float it in a larger gap.
