How can I check belt aligment without the special tool? Or is it impossible? Trying to figure out why my belts loses cords....
Thanks

Using an 18" length of 1/2" or so bar stock,

ENGINE TWIST
You can try Placing a straight edge of some kind and hold/clamp it to the secondary.

Measure to the machined edge of the primary with vernier calipers.

CLUTCH OFFSET
Clamp/hold a Straight edge from the back side of the primary to backside of the secondary APPROX 3/4"

CENTER to CENTER=11.5"
Remove BOTH clutches, BUTT the accurate metal rule against the JACK-SHAFT (1" O.D.) and look for 11.000" at the center of the crank

You may want to check for broken motor mounts if you're tearing up the belt.

I prefer APPROX .030" of slop (back & forth in + out movement) in the secondary when completed

Or just order the tool from SLP, i believe it's around $ 35 +/-

Some pics are posted at the top of the IQ section, INCREASING YOUR IQ, thread about engine alignment.

Hope this helps to diagnose your belt issue
