clunking noise when using brake

Hi guys; just got back from a weekend riding in the backcountry and as the title suggests, when applying the brake hard, I get a loud clunking/banging noise coming from my 16 assault with 2.25 peak track. I checked the brake and it seems fine. I think the issue is with the chaincase or some part of the drive system. The noise as been in the sled ever since I bought it and I now have 500 miles on the sled. Thinking about bringing it back for polaris to check but if its something simple I would like to correct it myself.

Mine has done this since new as well (pro-rmk with the 3" chaincase). I think it maybe slack in the chain. Although I have checked/set the tension of the chain to what the manual calls for and it still does it. Either that or the slack in the secondary clutche's splines... I don't remember my old chaincase pro rmk making this noise though.

I have had the chaincase apart and the tension on the chaincase is fine. Everything looks fine and I have had a 2015 rmk 600 and a 2014 assault and had no issues, but I think this needs to be addressed before I do some bigger damage or it breaks in the backcountry.

Riding 2 weeks ago with a friend and his new (still breaking in) Pro 2.6 with quick drive and his did this also so I'm assuming its not just chain case related. To busy having fun to stop and look into it.

Check your track tension, Polaris specs them extremely tight.
I can almost guarantee this is the problem.
Ive had two buddys with the same noise and racket and the track was too loose

Brake Noise Recall / Update?

There has been a recall / update posted for some of the issues you describe with the brake noise. I believe some portion of the casting was mis-machined as they end up removing the existing casting and replacing with a new one. I would assume the known offending vin's have been notified but the issue may well extend further than they thought. Definitely worth mentioning to your dealer or Polaris rep.

What he said. Tighten your track and your noise will be gone. Eric

Those tracks stretch quite a bit during the break in. Other day on a down hill break I got a quick ratchet. Track was loose, tightened back to spec, all good. Their spec is much tighter than other sleds.

Every one I have ridden does this, it is the track sliding back and forth on the drivers. Hit the gas, the drivers slip into the drive side of the lugs/holes, hit the brakes it does the opposite. Mine even did it. Sounds and feels horrible. I would think that tightening the track would help, but it still doesn't seem right to me.
