Climbing Hills Already????

I went up to the Double Hill area this morning to pull out a sled that had been left overnight. I was amazed to see snowmobile tracks up to the cornice and back down just to the left of some avalanche debris. What the hell are these people thinking? It looks like about 25% of the hill had slid and the rest just waiting in the balance for someone to knock it down on top of them. How stupid are these people? Sorry to rant, it just seems absurd to me that some are still willing to risk their lives and the lives of others by pulling this crap. It is completely selfish.

Keep in mind Mt. most sledders are not 4M members, they are ignorant to what is going on. Last Sat at the doomed Freak shoot out I ll bet I saw 12 riders going like he ll without helmets? It is the Darwin theory alive and well unfortunately.

Just got back from there too. I couldn't believe what I saw. That side usually is one of the first to slide and has the largest cornice build up.

Some major stupid people out there.
Those are the idiots you see on the news and put S&R in danger.

That's the killer part that really pisses me off. Not only are they so stupid that they put themselves at risk they put other people in danger too.
I just want to smack them in the head.

What I felt today scared the crap out of me. five or six times on top of the mountain, fellow sledders pulled up next to me and the ground would shift and settle:eek::eek::eek:

Same thing up in logan...
Rode there 12-31-08
We stayed off the big hills but there were tracks where people had no business being!
If I can stay off the hills anyone can... Some were tempting and conditions seemed fair but we stayed away.
Will try to get some pics posted.

kinda like that big open hill over by whites?? there were so many marks on that I was just thinking someone is asking for trouble.

When we were out riding on 12/30 between Tower and Cold Springs we had NUMEROUS instances of the same "whommph" sound and the snow under us (this was flat land!!!) would seriously settle 3 or 4 inches! I was the first to drop in a very small bowl with no danger to it and immediately as I pulled out of the trees and stopped to take in the untracked scene before me "whommph" and settle. Just tells you how unstable that snowpack is and how precarious the steeps are!

Not sure which one your talking about... The hills up whites in the dry lake bed are pretty safe other than the north east facing part that is rocky. I have seen that part slide but is usually very slow moving and not very big.
The south fork up boss where the cliffs are is a no go zone this time of year and there were tracks climbing up below the cliffs.
Up past whites by the lakes (I forget the name) we call it the boy scout camp... Last big hills before competition looked oh so tempting but we stayed off... Surprisingly there were no tracks on the north side which seems to be more stable... The south hill had lots of tracks and is a bad hill to play on when conditions are unsafe.
We had a great time and still found some hills to play on.
