Clearance Light ??

I have a homemade sled deck on my 03 Dodge Cummins. I want to put clearance lights on the side but the lights only come with 1 wire. I hooked that up to the brown wire for trailer lights and plug it into my 7 wire plug but no lights come on. I think I need a ground but not sure what to do?? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

they are self grounding lights, so make sure the mounts on them are nice and clean, getting good metal contact, also, if your deck isnt grounded with the trailer light system, then im not sure you can use self grounding lights.

either new lights or try running the main ground out of the 7 wire up to the deck frame.

You need to run a ground from the truck to the deck the same as you would on a trailer. i used a 3-pin connector(2-pin would be better) wired it in same order as a 4-pin (only using 2 wires) first white ground, then brown park/running lights. presto it plugs into my 7-pin adapter, then into my camper plug in the box.

I ran the wires down the rear leg of my deck and the hooked a ground to the deck and connected it to the screw that holds in the tail light on the left side when the tail gate is open on my 03 dodge. That worked just fine. In the summer just ondo the screw and pull out the wire before unloading.
