Clear Tank Swap Issue?

I am trying to put a clear tank from an Edge chassis onto my 99 XC 700 and I cannot figure out what part I am missing to properly hook up the fuel line. The tank came with just a hole, whereas the black tank I removed had a threaded insert built into the tank. So I went down to the local shop and picked up a rubber grommet and new brass fuel spout (not sure exact name). The brass spout fits into the rubber grommet, which I assume is supposed to fit into the whole in the tank, but there is not a way for it to stay secure. Am I missing a part? Or are you supposed to use adhesive? Any advice and help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

the peices are held in place by compression. the hole in the tank is sized so that when the fitting is placed into the grommet it forces the grommet to seal against the inside of the hole. you might have to plug the existing hole if it is too big. the hole in the tank should be about 1/16" undersize compared to the outside of the grommet.

After tinkering for a bit it seems as though I am still confused. I think maybe the hole in the tank is too large. Maybe the last owner drilled it out for some reason. But when I put the grommet inside the hole it just fall into the tank. Is there anyway that I could glue or bond the large part of the grommet to the hole? Basically it won't stay unless held in postion. Any ideas or anyone else have this issue? I'm definitely lost here.

I put the same clear tank on my 2000 800 but used the polaris fuel line kit since the old fuel line was rotting away. It had the right sized grommet and fitting. But the kit was expensive i thought. If you have a good hardware store seems like you could find the right combo of fittings and grommets. I'd stay away from sealers trying to hold the grommet in. It needs to be a tight press fit.

Once again thank you for the help Franz, I will go to ACE Hardware and see what I can come up with. Take care.

Franz, would you by any chance know the part number for that fuel pump kit? Just in case I cannot come up with something at the hardware store. Thanks.

Glad to be of help. Just went through this to get back on the snow this year.

couldn't find p/n for kit. Here's what I have for each part through polaris.

bulkhead grommet (1) : 5432981 (same for all years)

in-tank fuel line (1): 8350020-160

compression rings (2): 7080768

pickup/filter (1): 7052215

Tank bulkhead fitting (1): 7052214 and 7052269

(p/n 7052214 is a 90 deg. fitting for ealier sleds and ...69 is straight fitting for 2002 and later and also a little bigger size.) Check location of the oil tank to see which fitting is right.

(Optional) Fuel line, pump to bulkhead (1) : 8350017-600 (larger tubing for use w/bigger straight fitting)

Wow, that's big time of you! I want to get this tank on and out of the garage, been there too long as it is. Thank you once again, and I'll let you know how it goes. Don't be suprised if I have another question post, haha. Take care.
