CLEANING ENCLOSED TRAILERS GAS TANK

I have a 2007 Mirage 28 foot enclosed trailer. Bought it used and I want to make use of the gas tank that's built in under the trailer between the axles. How does one clean out the tank so the gas stays clean. There is one drain under the tank in the center plus the vent line and where you fill the tank. With the price of gas ,I hate to fill it up and just see a lot of rusty gas come out of the hose. Any help would be great.

Greetings Cop-Out,

Having a built in fuel cell is good stuff.

The Mirage trailers I've seen by design the fill spout will not allow you to visually look into the fuel cell to inspect for debris. I'm guessing that is where you’re at. I've pulled the drain plug in the bottom of a fuel cell before and as long as you have only 2 or 3 gallons of fuel to deal with it's not too bad of duty, but be prepared! My last choice would be to unbolt the fuel cell and remove from your trailer for an inspection. Regardless of draining or pulling your fuel cell, consider adding a spin-on fuel filter assembly. Rather your sleds are carbs or fuel injected; there is no down side to clean fuel.
Northern Tool has several models for your consideration if you agree:
• Goldenrod Spin-On Fuel Filter and Cap — 1in. Fittings, Model# 595
Item# 170301 Only $29.99

Have fun, Craig.

Agree with above Question: is the pump electric or manual? (wont matter)
Install a single or dual filter system in the output line and you should be good to go.
You could also test and fill with some gas and pump it into 5 gallon cans and see what comes out?
Sounds like a nice feature for a trailer.

filter in gas line.

Thanks guys ;never thought of putting an inline filter on the hose. It does have electric 12 volt pump built into the fuel system. I've heard that it takes a long time to fill up a sled. I'll be headed to the parts store soon to get the trailer ready for the winter.
Thanks again guy.

Clean out the tank so the gas stays clean? Depends what the tank it made of.

If it is steel, always keep the tank full when not using it.

To clean it, maybe fill it with Ethanol blend fuel (10%) and let it sit for a few weeks, then take that fuel out and maybe filter it before putting it in your car. I suppose if your car uses up to 85%, then use that to fill it and let it sit.

You might be able to inspect the tank using one of those borescopes but I'd check a little deeper into that to make sure it won't cause an accidental explosion. I've heard some auto parts stores will loan out or rent the scopes. Maybe there is a hose connection on the tank where you can access for a peek with the scope.
