Clamp on EGTs suck but...

I installed a set of clamp on Koso EGTs on my sled. I'll get them welded next year. But for now the display is just reading "low temp". When I installed the probes into the clamps, I kept the tip of the probe about 1/8" inch from the y pipe. My thinking was the sensor wouldn't last too long rattling on the metal y pipe.

Did you clamp on guys mount the probe directly touching the y pipe or leave a small gap?

So this is how I have them mounted. But what I mean is the tip of the probe is about 1/8" from the exhaust itself. Is this ok or am I doing something wrong? My gauges are still reading low temp when the sled is running. Can't get a temp reading.

the bottom of the probe should be far enough in the pipe...and its usually half way into the pipe..just take the exhaust off and have a peek up the ypipe...or just estimate knowing your pipe diameter...

i thought the ypipe weld is usually halfway..if your not deep enough your readings are useless..

ps...the ferrule slides up the probe any distance you want ...that way you get the depth you need..and the nut tightens the ferrule onto the probe to keep it from sliding.

If you have any issue getting the probe to slide deeper because of the ferrule being crushed on the probe to much ,just spilt the ferrule and you can get them from any hardware store that sells brass fittings..

It takes 10 minutes to get them welded. Why wait till next season?

Any sled shop can do it and you won't have any down time.

Looking at that pic you don't have them far enough in. Should be down at least another 3/4"

Ok I'm an idiot. I have no experience with these and the instructions are vague. I honestly thought you didn't even have to drill the y-pipe with the clamp ons. So that would be my problem. Thanks guys.:face-icon-small-con

Oh man. You are gonna catch some sh*t for that. I'll be nice, since it's Friday (for me) and we got 6" of snow last night

Haha yeah I seriously debated even telling you guys the truth. I always had it in my head that the clamp ons we're just "clamp ons".
