Circuit breaker broke. Not available from polaris.

So my electric start was working intermittently last season, and my battery kept discharging.

I went through my sled over the weekend, and one of the tabs on the circuit breaker next to the starter solenoid had snapped off.

I order a new one from partzilla, part number 2411592, they just informed we this part is no longer available from polaris.

It seems like they use the same part on the 2014, so WTF???
 
I would bet someone screwed up.

It still shows as available for $12.99 at any dealer. Likely way less if you can find out where Polaris sourced them from and go straight to the source.
 
I've used NAPA part number BK 7823012

12 amp thermal breaker.

But you are not saving any money.

Lots of 10 amp and 15 amp to choose from out there... but not 12 amp.

Factory part number 2411592 any dealer can get it .

I already tried ordering, the polaris system shows them as available but the lady at Partzilla said the order was cancelled by Polaris because they are discontinued.

I called NAPA, they don't have any of them in any of their warehouses.

I asked Michelle to try and order them, we'll see if she can get them

I don't understand the purpose of this thing, even if you trip the breaker the sled still runs with pull start so it is kind of unnecessary, also while on one hand it does protect the circuit (poorly, fuses always trip faster), on the other hand the contact on the non-fused side are easy to short out, defeating the purpose of this.

I might just stick a 5 + 7.5 fuse in parallel and call it done.
 
Trust me, it's there for a good reason.

If your battery develops a short or goes bad or something else goes bad downstream of the breaker, it keeps the charging system from "cooking" your battery, damaging the stator or starting a fire.

The breaker is placed on the charging (INPUT) side to the battery.. not the output.

Partzilla must be smoking crack...That breaker has been used for years and continues to be used in the 2014 ES sleds.

Michelle should be able to get that with ease.

A fuse, especially a jury rigged 5 + 7.5 in parallel, will be problematic.

I understand what you are saying. Partzilla also showed it in stock but the order got kicked back from polaris after a few days as discontinued. Waiting to see if the same thing happens to Michelle.

IMO a fuse provides superior protection. Especially compared to a thermal breaker - they take a long time to trip when shorted out. I also never liked auto resetting breakers, since you won't know if you have a frayed wire or other type of short. And the sled will run just fine even with a blown fuse/tripped breaker, you just lose battery charging and electric start. The non electric start sleds don't have anything there at all.
