Chutes and climbs?

Hey everybody, new guy here. :face-icon-small-hap

I am planning on moving up to Utah in the nest 2 years or so, and I'm trying to get a feel for the type of terrain there. (I look far in advance, lol) I know there is some GREAT powder sledding, but most of the cool climbs (couloirs) I see are in Montana and Canada. I know Utah has to have some cool ones, so can you guys post up some of your favorites? Anywhere in Utah and southern Idaho is cool.

Thanks everyone
Andrew

No offense Johnny...but it's also illegal, Timp is a wilderness area. There is a road that takes you out front that is fine to ride, but the mountain itself is off-limits. Not what we need for our sport.

Logan canyon has some pretty good stuff. The guys that ride up there could probably point you in the right direction.

That's odd. Powerhouse Motorsports has a huge banner with a giant picture of some dude up on top. I think they sponsored the guy or something. Seems like they wouldn't be advertising it so much if it was illegal.

lol....what kind of advertising would that be?

BTW...the wilderness boundary on the front side of timp is about half way up the face...so if you wanted to get technical about it. You could climb timp legally on a sled, just have to stop half way up and hike the rest of the way.

That gives me an idea for this years boondockers video since the snow has been crap, Gardiner can take his cat start at the north west side and side hill all the way across the face of timp to the south east side marking the wilderness boundary. Phatty can film it all from bald knoll and who knows maybe phelan can pay for a chopper to get it from the air, just a thought but you cant say that wouldn't make for some killer filming, think of how you could sale this crap...I should get paid for these ideas:face-icon-small-hap

I didn't say it hadn't been done...I've seen the pictures and video too...I just said it was illegal and it's not what our sport needs. If Powerhouse is supportive of that kind of thing...shame on them.

Snengineer is right...the boundry is about half way up...just about where it starts to get steep. Bottom line is, you can't legally climb it. However, I'd like to be there to see that sidehill marking the boundry line...that be close to 5 miles worth. :face-icon-small-coo

chutes and other tight spots

VP,
There are piles of gnarly chutes and steep climbs here in the wasatch. I'd imagine we could point towards a few that are a grand or more..
Not everyone around here is hell bent on climbing only tho. We get to enjoy steep AND deed. And we only have to suffer thru that hero snow late in the season. If thats what you're basing your decision to move here on, thats kinda sad. If you don't like the deepest(usually) and driest boondocking, tree lovin' snow stay far away from UT. You will hate it:face-icon-small-hap

No more guys?[/QUOTE]

I never said I was basing my decision off this. :face-icon-small-hap I just wanted to get a feel for what the state has to offer in diversity, thats all.

Thanks for the info guys. :face-icon-small-hap

Dan would definately be the guy to do it! never actually seen him ride but his movie parts...holly chit! pretty sure he could sidehill anything. about that vid of timp.. is that guy just on a stock dragon? looks like it would take a little more than that to go straight up that face. anyway just my 2 cents.
