Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) looks like he may be facing a fresh political firestorm.
Dodd just admitted on CNN that he inserted a loophole in the stimulus legislation that allowed million-dollar bonuses to insurance giant AIG to go forward – after previously denying any involvement in writing the controversial provision. .
“We wrote the language in the bill, the deal with bonuses, golden parachutes, excessive executive compensation that was adopted unanimously by the United States Senate in the stimulus bill,” Dodd told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer this afternoon.
“But for that language, there would have been no language to deal with this at all.”
Dodd had previously said that he played no role in writing the controversial language, and was not a part of the conference committee that inserted the language in the bill. As late as today, Dodd’s spokeswoman denied the senator’s involvement.
The AIG bonuses have caused a political firestorm, with Republicans and Democrats alike looking to lay blame for who’s responsible, and leading lawmakers looking to revoke the bonuses.
Dodd’s role in the legislation will likely come up as he faces the likelihood of a tough re-election. Former GOP congressman Rob Simmons announced he was running this week, and has already taken issue with Dodd’s stewardship as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.

But...I disagree with just about everything that old quack spits out his senile skull. I had to write an essay on some memorable accomplishments of his. So I took what he has done at face value and didn't look into it too much. I think I wrote on his immaculate attendance record for senate proceedings, and his efforts to further aerospace research in his home state.

Yea, I want the money, but I didn't want the scholarship, if that makes any sense.

The original bill had a $100k cap on bonuses written by Olympia Snow.

Dodd was also the 2nd largest receiver of AIG contributions last year, 2nd only to Obama!

Concerning the Chris Dodd affair, at least it's one of the first times that CNN an Fox News have been reported the same news. It seems the mood of the country is changing and this time I don't BO will like it. Geithner must go.

Apparently yesterday Dodd admitted he knew about the " Clause" that was put into the stimulus bill but he did nothing because " It would caused huge problems" if he would have tried to stop it.

I love that line!!!!!!!!! Too bad there are so many dumb people in the states. Now I see on the news that they got a bill in to outlaw lead in all national forest lands such as sinkers for fishermen & bullets for hunters.

Why are the dems demanding the return of the bonuses they specifically allowed to happen?

Why has Dodd tried so hard to dodge the bullet on this one?

Why is Obama trying so hard to downplay the whole mess while at the same time demanding action??

The dems are taking a HUGE beating on this one. The public in general is demanding a stop to the bailouts, a stop to pouring good money after bad. The majority of the country believes the government is spending WAY more than they should be and they blame the dems. Obama's popularity is down in the low 50's and falling.
That is why Obama is going on Jay Leno's tonight. that is why the Dems are demanding the money back, even though they knowingly allowed it to happen in the first place.

They (the dems) are starting to realize they may have crossed a line and are terrified of a backlash. We can only hope.

Boy, this afternoons news is sure interesting to watch. They are pretty much calling for Gaithners head, Dodd says he was requested to put in that clause at the last minute by someone in the Obama admin and he also received a $103k donation from AIG.
