Chopping tunnel 155-146

I know there's a few people on here that have went from a 155-146. Looking to see if there's anyone you would recommend in the CO area to do this

How much are you cutting off?

I don't think you really need to chop your tunnel down.
I honestly don't think it's worth the time and effort. How much length are you looking to remove?

There is work to redo the cooler and everything that goes with it. You'll have to do a leak and pressure test on that.

I know guys who will go the other way from a 155 to a 163 and not put a tunnel extension on it. Didn't have problems.
I've gone from a 144 to a 151 and I didn't need the extension.

Polaris website shows the 144" 600 RMK is only inches shorter than a 155" 600 RMK.

I wouldn't cut it down. Not worth it IMO.

If you cut off 5" then according to the Polaris specs, you'll be shorter than the 144" sled.

You could get away with that, but what's the point?
Cost is high, risk of other complications is high, no performance gain, no real weight loss.

Leave it at the 155 length for now. More cooling capacity, more cooler length exposed to snow, easier to convert back/sell, less cost, less effort, find out how you like it with a shorter track, first. If it's a pro, I would definitely NOT reduce the cooling capacity even more. FWIW.

Chop it

I recommend chopping it. Resale is already crap since everybody and their brother has these things now and the axis release didn't help.
I tried leaving the stock length and ended up having issues.

Don't know who would do it for ya in co though. I had mine done at a machine shop I used to work at since I don't tig aluminum.

No worse for cooling that I've noticed. I doubt anyone else commenting here has actually done this mod themselves so chop it down.

Cutting Tunnel

It's really not that complicated to do, the existing weld seams are there. Disassemble of the tail of the sled and take it to someone who is proficient at Tig welding aluminum and explain how much you want cut off and how you want the finished product to look. The factory just Mig welds that set of seams on the coolers. I believe there are pictures on this forum of it being done. You can carefully cut the existing welds to take the cross tube out, shorten it and weld back in. I would however look into adding some cooling capacity while you have it cut apart. Bring it to MN and I'll do it for you and make an instructional video for others to follow since Polaris won't make us an actual RMK in that length. Now if we could just get a 146 x 3 incher.
