Back-story is that about 3 years ago some of the board members decided that it would be a good idea to fight nightly rentals. They put it a vote associating and pitting nightly rentals against “good community businesses” such as; snow plows, groomers, ditch digger, etc. The vote was allow nightly rentals and the board would enforce a total businesses shut down; or, vote to enforce a water shutdown of nightly rentals and allow “good community businesses” to remain. In other words: let us kick out the folks with more properties than us cool board members or were going to not let the guy down the street plow your driveway or let the groomer work out of here.
This led to a law suit and some shady funneling of money from the treasury that was assigned through a water rate increase set aside for updating water valves to meters required to be compliant in 2016. This led to additional assessments specifically allocating money to sue other owners; that sued to allow nightly rentals never before limited by the community.
It turns out that there were 5 complaints against said rental businesses over some period of keeping score. I do feel bad for the neighbor that had to complain, but I could complain many times over for normal, non-rental, “neighbor” activities.
We lost the groomer from the community, through several reasons, but I was in the bar one night talking to an owner and his friend and heard him say if they pass the no nightly rentals he was out. Last season was the first under new ownership, a respected local family and I trust they will do a good job; but they had no reason to do two runs a night to the community and even less to hit the local access trails occasionally. It wasn’t until several calls were made to board members accusing the lawsuit problem on the lack of grooming that it was quickly resolved.
Worse off I recently have noticed all the private shared access points have been closed or being discussed as closing. We had a sweet access about 200 yards from my cabin directly to the trails… That is generally useable from ~ December 1 into March. Not a huge deal to a dedicated sledder, but a big hit on the overall sled community ambiance and desirability that made Chiwawa Pines the chit.
Lawsuit determination: one judge determined they couldn't limit 30 day or over rentals and another said they couldn't limit anything. So we spent well over $100000 and rapidly growing. Could have bought our own community groomer or paid an extra 10k a year and purchased some easements for access. The community board is appealing the decision hoping to keep pissing each other off… and spending and spending the rest of our money… Hmm sounds like another organization (insert any democrat controlled gvt.)
I just wanted to point out the bitterness that the children of the Greatest Generation hold against the next generation and themselves. Well if Obama wins, the government will take it all and give it to the communists who will eventually have a group of people who like to snowmobile and declare it a recreation getaway for the elite communist police. I guess I will either become a commie guide or the leader of the commie secret police.
Anti capitalist (must bring government provided/supported item) and conifer encroachment meadow maintenance patrols to begin in January!
That brings me to: what can I deduct for my "guided" services?
Rant intermission
