I recently picked up a 73 highboy and want to do a few things here and there. Purpose of the truck is more or less a toy but one that will be well taken care of (with the exception of the typical county fair truck pulls) She's geared pretty low and I'm looking to do some mild motor work to the 460. One thing i do know about bolt ons is that some work better together than others so what I'm looking for is the right combination of cam, lifters, rockers, ignition, and carb.

Been quite awhile since I modded any truck motors, so things may have changed some.

Seems a good start would be found here. Package designed to work together and I recall they used to be great on street motors.

a 73 highboy should have an fe based motor unless some one changed it360-390
if it is a 460 their is a lot that can be done for relatively cheap

Those were wicked tough trucks! There are a ton of options, been a while since I touched one. I would look at what it has for cam/carb/intake, 460's love to breath. Headers are pretty tight in that vintage but I have seen them installed. No real help other than to say have fun! I know so old boys if you get into a problem I can ask them...oddly enough in my travels this week I have seen two REALLY nice ones for sale within 100 miles.....odd??

So far here's kind of what I'm going with, lunati high rise came, edelbrock performer dual plane intake, not sure about the carb yet, would like to get a hold of a carter but they must be outta business?

Forget truck pulls. Throw some lockers and enter it in mod-stock mud bogs. Larger but skinny bogger tires seem to do the best. The wide ones just dig holes. Mud is fun!

i used to have a pretty wicked 77 with the a set 36" super swampers....she was pretty gnarly in the mud holes. Unless someone has a better suggestion I was leaning to 35" thornbirds....a buddy used to have them on his and they flung some serious mud. got him in and out of a lot of places

I have a 74 F250 Highboy ...came stack with a 390/4 speed granny geared NP 205 ...dana 44 up front with Dana 60 out back running 4:10s

that was then now it has a 460 dual NP 205s...Dana 60s front and rear with 5:86s C-6 biult up automatic and usually sits on 44s but will accept 48s

also a 79 F250 super cab with stack 460 in it

can't remember what cam I put in but 286 comes to mind and went with Competition cams.....L&L nickel plated headers 3 inch flowmasters, edlebrock performer intake, and 800CFM Holley double pumper

have you ever had a problem in your carbs on a steep incline with loading up with fuel? I'm pretty sure you need to post up some pics....I'm tire shopping right now I'll get some pics thrown up here one of these days

This one was mine,
76 150 with 351w and 4spd auto with 208 t case 44 front and 9" rear, auto tilt cruse column. complete frame off and all factory fenders/doors with a 79 front clip.

whats the bolt pattern on ford's 1 ton axles? lookin for wheels

well since others put some pics up heres my 74 with a 79 front clip on her with custom built frame , 8 inch drop spring hangers .....and lots of lift

I remember one time I was heading into town and picked up this guy on the side of the road ....when it was his time to get out I said watch your step ..and the last thing I saw was the soles of his Nikes ....I laughed my *** right off and slapped the B&M slap shift into gear and rooted on her .....just imagine dude gets out like all is normal .........
