CHECK YOUR OIL TANK!!!

Here is the story:
We left the cabin at Priest Lake Idaho, heading for North Baldy in Washington. Had a great ride playing all day. Headed back and about 25 miles out, my wife rolled her 08 RMK. Nothing out of the ordinary. Except this time, oil dumped out everywhere. Completely drained her tank, coated everything under the hood, including clutches and belt. I had to tow her sled 25 miles back to the trailer, not a good end to the ride.
Got the sled home and pulled it apart. We discovered that the sending unit assembly had fallen out of the tank. It was just a compression fitting with no adhesive or mechanical fastener. I was later told that there was a recall for this which chapped my hide since the sled has been to a dealer 3 times for service, etc. We pulled everything out, gave it a bath and attached the sending unit with permatex. Easy fix and everything is good as new.

This is a long post with a short ending. Make sure you check the sending unit on the back of your oil tank. I don't know if they have changed the attachment since 08 but tonight I am digging into my 09 to make sure.

Wifes 08 600 had similar issue..not as extreme. But same thing...there was a service note pertaining to certain sending units. They were out of round causing leakage..some worse than others.

I had them check my 08 D8 and it wasnt under the bad lot numbers..it has no problems. Only some of them will be bad.
