Check engine light

I stoped at the gas bar, filled up with fuel, fired back up and it gave me check engine, went away for a minute then came back on, it went away and never came back but now it runs like POOP. Is there anyway of checking what code was given without going to the dealer?

Whoops, 2011 switchback assault 800...

Its running rough down low and cutting out on top!!

Set the parking brake, start the sled, and go thru the mode or set buttons and a code will come up. My guess is 173 Exhaust temp sensor.

If the light is no longer on will it still show? The light is no longer on, I tried, didn't show me anything, unless I did it wrong.

Light must be on. A dealer can pull the previous codes.
