Check Engine Light 2015 WR450

I bought a 2015 WR450 with a Timbersled ST already installed from the dealer. On my first ride the check engine light came on a few minutes into the ride. Back to the dealer where they diagnosed it as a front wheel sensor. The light comes on because the ECU sees rear wheel speed but no front wheel speed due to no wheel being mounted to rotate the sensor. The dealer has contacted Timbersled and Yamaha and neither one has an answer on how to solve this problem. I know I'm not the only person who has a Timbersled on a 2015 WR450. I'm wondering how other people got around this problem or are you simply riding with the check engine light continuously lit? TIA
 
You have two options, live with the light or purchase the GYTR programmable ECU. The new ECU does not care if there is a front wheel.
 
Thanks for the reply. However, it generates another question. When I was discussing this with the service manager I requested that if he spoke to Yamaha about this he specifically ask whether a competition (his term) ECU would solve the problem. He told me he did indeed ask the question and Yamaha Tech Support told him that the competition ECU also looked for the wheel sensor and it would NOT solve the problem. Now I'm wondering if Tech Support has actual experience with this particular problem or if he was just reciting a book answer. Do you, or anyone else on here, have real-world experience that this will solve the problem? I'd hate to spend the money for the ECU to find out it doesn't fix the problem. Thanks
 
Since I never received any other responses about this, I guess I'm on my own to figure this out. I went ahead and ordered the GYTR ECU and I'll post up whether it solves the check engine light issue or not. The more I read about these things the more I wonder if it needs a thermostat kit? If so, which one and is it user friendly to install? Does someone make a engine cover for the 2015 WR450? Does an engine cover work better or worse than a Tstat? Do I need both? At this point I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get to ride this thing or will I be doing modifications until spring gets here. Any help this noob can get is appreciated. Thanks
 
I have a 2013 wr450 and to my knowledge it's the same as your bike. I have the gytr ecu and programmer. I have never had the check engine light on for a wheel sensor, or anything for that matter. As for the tstat get a thermo bob. I also have engine covers that I made myself. I can take a couple pics in the next week or so as I don't have my kit mounted yet for this season.

Thanks for the reply. I'd appreciate pics of your engine cover setup if you get a chance. Where are people getting the thermo bob tstat and engine covers? I guess my Google-fu is weak because I'm not having much luck coming up with either for my WR.
 
So I finally got the bike back from the shop. The good news is the GYTR ECU took care of the check engine light being caused by the front wheel sensor. The bad news is the Gator skins over the air box intakes is not enough to stop the air box from getting COMPLETELY filled with snow when riding deep powder. What is the fix for that on the WR?
 
The same as for most other bikes (since your year WR still has the rear facing airbox); cut open, or eliminate altogether, the airbox. Nothing to get filled then. You just need a pre filter over an intake boot and cage. Either homemade or bought complete. Many fight the airbox thing for a season or two but find eliminating it gets rid of most snow-related intake issues. Doing it now will get you ahead of the game.
