Cheap Sled Prices??

What is the best deals people have been seeing for 1 - 2 year old new sleds. My local dealership has a ton of 2009 M8's at least 10+ and they are dropping the dealership for next season so they want to move them but they are still asking 8K for the new sled and it is not even the SnoPro. I know I have seen some 08's in the 7K range but what is the lowest I should off my dealership to take one of these off their hands? I was thinking like $6,000 in cash? I want the sled but feel like there is going to be a whole bunch of these opportunities around this summer as people are sitting on a bunch of sleds that didn't sell.

What is the opinion of the forum. Do your dealerships have a bunch of unsold sleds and are they making screaming deals or holding the price pretty firm?

The dealer is only going to go so low. When they drop the dealership, Cat will take the sleds back. The 8K is already below their cost so if they are not staying in business it's really in their best interest to let Cat take them back rather then sell way below cost. The dealer most likely doesn't own the inventory, but pays flooring to a finance company for it. Depending on the contract with Cat, Cat maybe covering like 90% of their flooring costs so keeping the sleds may not be costing them much. Now if the dealer is in Montana and Cat legally can't cover any of the flooring then the dealer may be more willing to dump the sled to get out from under the finance charge. Example...If a dealer in Montana has 30 holdover sleds and they are paying 100% of the monthly flooring then that inventory costs them about 30K/month or about $1000 per sled. If they are a dealer outside Montana and they have a contract that says Cat will cover 90% of the flooring for a year then the same 30 sled inventory costs the dealer 3K/mo. or $100 per sled. If that's the case, then the dealer would be better off keeping the inventory until they shut down and cat takes it back, rather then take a big loss by selling it to you. Once they sell the sled they owe Cat 9K for the sled so if they sell to you for 6, they are coming out of pocket for 3K, which is equal to 3 mo. flooring in MT, or years of flooring in a state where Cat can supplement the flooring. So I guess what I'm saying is, if they are going out of business in 6 months and they pay 10% of there flooring costs then it will cost then $600 to keep it and give it to cat, vs. taking a $2K + loss to sell to you. $1000 behind cost is probably about the best you're going to get. That all being said, a better deal will most likely be made by a dealer that plans to stay in business. All of this really only applys to dealers that do not own their inventory.

There are also really good deals out there on used sleds, an 09 M8 in great shape with less than 500 miles on it sold on here last month for $5900. A friend of mine bought an 09 M8 162 with 124 miles on it for $5500. That was at the beginning of April. Keep your eyes open through the summer, have cash in hand and I'll bet you get a smokin deal if you're patient.

Hope this makes sense.:o

I think 6K is VERY low to offer, but there is no harm in it unless you make him mad...Which you probably wont since he is dropping Cat. Cat will more than likely buy them back from him, along with his parts, that is usually the easiest way for a business to cut ties.

Used 09 M8's for $5500.00? Wow, didn't know people were that desperate to sell. Where I ride you will not find any prices that low for an 09 M8, maybe on an 07-08 M8 depending on the mileage. Remember that sleds are only worth what people are willing to pay for them, some areas sell used sleds and new sleds priced realisticly, others in a dream world.

Rexburg motorsports was selling m8s for $7800 a month or so ago. Of course I was out of the state and when I got back all that was left was an LE that they wanted more $ for.:(:( So it seems your dealer is close to the same price. They might come down alittle but I dought $2,000. Dosn't hurt to try> Good Luck

Flooring Costs

Thanks for the tip on the flooring costs. I didn't think of it and will have to consider it when I go to buy. It wil also put me more on the lookout for a sled in MT, it is only a 10 hr drive . I have been keeping my eyes on the lookout for a good price on a used sled but they are all still kind of high. I bet in July some of those prices might come down a little more. I will be keeping my eyes open. If not I still have a sled to ride next season.

Sleds sales

When you buy you might want to consider service. Dealers are going out of business faster than I can even imagine. Cat has a program in place that is forcing them out at an alarming rate.

Yes Around here in Colorado it is getting tough to find a good dealer to get parts and service from. I have to drive 45 min- hr to pic up parts...
