Cheap PERC

I just did a PERC conversion on my 2002 700. I did the whole 9 yards (Team secondary, wiring harness, oil pump, flywheel, CDI, and handlebar control). Works good, I like it.

Now I'm thinking about what is the cheapest way I can put a PERC on my 2003 800. I know where I can get a team secondary for $40. I could go with a simple momentary press button for the switch. Then maybe a used CDI from a 2004 800.

Is that all I need in it's simplest form? I was wondering if I could send in my existing CDI to be reprogrammed for reverse? Also not sure if I can make the reverse light and the reverse button work with the existing wiring harness.

Any thoughts?

you can't get your module reprogrammed for reverse, the problem with the 04 cdi is that you will still need the det sensor. you are best off buying a kit off ebay for $300

Good point about the DET. I think you are right about buying the kit but let's explore this a bit further before we go that route.

Was PERC reverse an option in 2003? If so finding one of those CDI's might be an option. I only see one CDI listed in the parts diagrams for 2003 and 2004.

Also, I know you can reprogram the CDI for a 14 degree or 18 degree flywheel. I had that done to mine by Pro5 Racing for $125. Also I've heard they can be reprogrammed to turn off the DET. Are you confident that reverse is not an option that can be enabled?

On a side note it would be interesting to know for further reference what can be modified when reprogramming the CDI's.

Again, think cheap.

2003 had PERC on the Escape models and yes the DET can be removed. Call Curt at Fastraxx 1-253-848-0908 he could tell you what can be done and what can't.

BRAND NEW P.E.R.C. kits

Dave Gazeley, (bluedave626 on e-bay) was selling BRAND NEW COMPLETE P.E.R.C kits for $275.00 secondary, speedo w/reverse light, left hand controls, stator, etc.

He's in North Dakota
EVERYTHING INCLUDED, don't know if he has any left though.

That's who I got the PERC kit for my 700 from. Dave (bluedave626) is a great guy to deal with.

I'm still keeping my eyes out for the pieces to junkyard dog a perc on this 2003 800.

1. I've got the Team secondary.
2. If I can find a 2003 escape CDI or 2004 CDI with a DET for a reasonable price I'm thinking I could wire in the DET and not use it or else have it reprogrammed (tell me if I am wrong).
3. Install a momentary switch.
4. Anything I missed to get a basic reverse system working? Do I need to change the wiring harness or can I wire in what I am missing?

Things to add on later:
5. Wire in the REV light on the TACH. along with a beeper.
6. Check to see if I have the correct oil pump that pumps in reverse.
7. Check to see if I have the correct starter pawl.

If any of you gents have an extra CDI or a handlebar control with the REV button, let me know.

thanks, Dave

How did you get the $275 price on the kit? It's currently at $369, if i'm looking in the right place. Thanks.

Reverse

People also seem to forget that the 600RMK also came out with reverse in 2003. The difference between the 03 escape reverse and the the 600rmk reverse was the secondary. Team was used on the escape and I believe polaris used their roller secondary on the 600. I looked at both sleds in 02 before snow checking my escape. Anyway something else to consider.
