Changing track on 05' M having trouble with brake bearing on shaft

Shouldn't the drive shaft just slide out of the bearing in the brake assembly? got the DD out and now trying to pound the drive shaft out of the brake setup but it seems to be stuck in the bearing?? Thanks

well if you got the dd out then the long bolt is out if you pulled the nut off it then you should get after it with a dead blow they do get rusted

Abort that mission. You dont need to go through that bs. Reach in the tunnel and take the nuts off the inside of the brake caliper mount. Then work the drivers, track shaft and brake assy. out that side of the sled, till the driver gets to the inside of the tunnel, then you will have enough room to jockey the track out of the way. You can do this with the DD in place still, way easier, and less stuff to mess with. I've done this with the A20, and also a 2.5" extreme, so there is the room. Even not knowing what your doing, its still a 45 minute job. Good luck

Attaboy Mudracer, saves the PITA of dealing with the trackshaft nut and crap. What did you put on it, claw? or a extreme?

Arcticat, no sir. I could more or less tell you where it went, and who it went with... But seeing as i have alot more to lose then those bottom feeding bastards, i feel its not worth the war. Chalk it up to lessons learned, a lesson that cost me ballpark 10g's. Ill be able to get some satisfaction from this whole situation one day tho... believe me...

I tried to pound the driveshaft out of my 05 M7, never got it loose and eventually figured out that I could free up the caliper and work the track out that way. A few hunderd miles later, the brake side bearings failed completely. As I have seen a few other M7s go a lot farther, I think the bearing failure was from trying to beat the driveshaft out. If you have hammered on the end of the driveshaft, keep an eye on those bearings...

i've had to use a gear puller on more than one to get the shaft out of the rotor side. i always use a little antiseize when i reassemble...
