changes on the 2014's belt drive system??

So what changes in belt drive system do you think we will see? Do you think the 13's will see any updates?

True machined pulleys and a straight driveshaft, move the brake to the driveshaft on the pto side to get rid of the heat on the top pulley and give me a separate switch for the thumb warmer.

I would say outside to put more teeth on the top sprocket but if the cast pulleys are out of true its still gonna go through a constant tighten loosen cycle. Also wouldn't a machined pulley cut down on break in time?

I have heard arguments for both designs. I do believe a super charger belt gets the tension from an inside pully.
 
The best bet would be to have Gates make them a kevlar poly reinforced belt, they would not have these "break in" or wear issues.

They went cheap. Tried to make it all a proprietary desing, as in special pitch and width. Heaven forbid they make it so someone could buy a better belt... Typical!

Just so people know, the cmx belt drive has a break in time too. I don't know what Mark Hoffman at CMX recommends, but i do know those belts through a bunch of that waxy stuff all over the place while they break in too.

Go find someone with a new CMX belt and look for a bunch of blue waxy stuff all over the like the black stuff you see on the Polaris belt drives.

From what I have read from people that have the C3 system is that it flat out works. I bet that the same goes for the CMX drive, and both have a tensionor. You have to wonder if Polaris should have gone this route (tensionor). Hopefully they work the bugs out for the 2014.

Is a tensioner really the answer? C3 calls for a 1/2'' of deflection in their set up and mine is way tighter than that already.
 
I'll take my chaincase anyday of the week over the beltdrives. Rock solid, never any issues on 220+ HP running the crap out on it...

When cold, it needs that 1/2" of deflection cause as it warms up, the pulleys expand and tighten up the deflection. My first trip out, on our first stop, I pulled my panel and checked the belt deflection while warm and it went from the 1/2" cold to about 1/4" warm. C3 recommended I loosen it up a little to get around 3/8" or so deflection at operating temps. Also the "tensioner" on the C3 kit is not spring loaded, it's locked down and will not move unless you loosen the nut that holds it.

To bad they can't come up with a spring tension set-up, similar to what's used on vehicle serpentine belts. Keep a constant amount of pressure regardless of temperature.

I am a design engineer for the past 18 years (not that it merrits anything but...), in the packaging and agricultural fields. We use Gates belt drives in most all of our packaging machines (low hp requirements), and have since moved this technology into agricultural farm tillers.

The tillers I am talking about dig up to 16" in depth and run 250 HP gear boxes, what do you thing drives all that HP to the ground..... BINGO, a Gates CVT kevlar poly GT belt, granted it's 120MM wide but it takes the shock load of stumps and rocks with tines hitting them at 10 fold the force that a track from a sled could do. We have no break in period, dust, or anything else for that matter.

You don't need a tensioner if you make a belt that fits the propper center to center distance and hold that distance in the fabrication of the equipment. If it is a tooth engagment problem, you do need a tensioner for wrap only. Polaris simply went cheap or didn't do their homework..

What is the average operational RPM of the system?

Dang... 4.75" wide... that is HUGE!!

I've used the Gates Carbon GT belts (a step up from the Kevlar in terms of strength) in marine Drop-Drives in the past... serious HP no issues... we were able to adjust the C-2-C dimension (not a fixed center drive).... Lower speed and wide belts like yours
