Change your Temp Sensor

It's the brass thingy screwed into the top of the head with the two wires coming out of it. Every 2,000 miles or every two years.

They cost about $35 for a new one and they're number one cause of mysterious bogging in the Liberty engine so just change the damn thing. OK?

That is all.

Buy the $12.95 bypass from Polaris and carry it in your coat pocket. If you get a funny, continous bog, plug the bypass in and see if it goes away. If so, then replace temp sensor. My '02 has never had a failure, but I've seen plenty fail.

My 02 has never failed either, but I carry the slp bypass with me. What can go wrong if you leave the bypass plugged in? Does the temp sensor go off at a certain temp?

it will run but you won't know if you are overheating til its to late. I would make sure everything else is good before you you just plug in the resistor and go ride. it will cost you a motor I have seen it

So performance wise the temp sensor is just a fail safe? I have a temp gauge with the flashing light alarm set to go off way lower than what the factory light comes on at.

yes all the temp sensor does is turn on the light and retards the time so you can't ride it, I liked that function even though I had gauges. it gets your attention

No don't do that cause if your hot u will lock it up. LEAVE IT IN AND PACK AND EXTRA. And a water pump belt. If you lose the water pump belt the temp sensor will save your motor because u also have no oil flowing either. Watched a bud do this exact thing!

Leave the sensor in!

A few weeks ago I had what I thought was a broke pump belt and after years of carrying one with me guess what, I didn't have one with me. The ignition went into limp mode before I ever had a clue it was hot, then i noticed the light (bright sunny day). So we towed it out.
That sensor saved my engine.
Got back to the shop and WTF, the belt was fine! It was a stuck thermostat. If that ever happens again I will check the belt regardless, I could have pulled the thermostat and been back riding.
Oh well, lesson learned.

I have a 03 RMK 800. I have had to change the temp sensor mid season for the last3 seasons. I am now going to carry one with as it only cost $25.00 it runs like sh__ and back fires. This is a sure sign you sensor is bad. The by-pass is a great Idea.
