Challenger or Back Country track?

I called to order a track today, I am looking at or thought I was at a Challenger 136X2 my '09 IQR. Tracks USA guy told me that if I planned on any notpowder riding I should think about the Back Country 136X1 3/4. I plan on running this sled on trails which in MN don't always have the needed amount, and run a few SnoX races. It sounds like the Back Country track will be the better way to go, but figured I would get a few opinions before I purchased, I can't imagine 1/4" will make night and day. And does anyone know of either of the tracks mentioned at better prices than Tracks USA? $515 and $475.

Thanks,
Landon

hmm don't know much about the back country track, but..can't go wrong with the challenger that's for sure :D i ride trails and marginal snow conditions on my 141x2 challenger all the time and it does very good IMO

Those lugs look WEAK and thin.
I'd stay away from that one.

If you're gonna run trails and ditch bang in marginal conditions....and an occasional SnoX..get the finger. They are freakin durable...and good stiff lugs offer the best traction anytime other than bottomless deep powder.

are you insane? ive had both and the finger is the first track to start losing lugs, and its heavy too! i ride on marginal snow all year and the back country is 5 times the track, the lugs are very stiff and i have not lost any. i wouldn't wish the finger track upon anyone.

LMFAO.
I've been running a finger since 2004. Same track. Not missing a lug yet.
I've seen guys who use their finger for grass dragging and spring riding in pretty marginal conditions...thousands of miles and NO missing fingers.

I've year to hear of a finger track start throwing lugs.

Nice thing about them..they are multidirectional...if the lugs layed down at all you can turn it around and go the other way with it.

i have had the backcountry in 136 and 144.
if your going with one track for the trails and powder i would go with a paddle/ pow profile track in at least a 1.5 up to 1.75.
i have rode a 136 chall and it did pretty good in pow, hard to say if any better than when i was on the 1.75 136backcountry..different year different snow but the 1.75 was enough to have some fun on , but when it got deep i was getting stuck ,, but so were the 136 2 inchers i was with

You finger track pushing mutha %&^%$#% how many times do i have to tell you that finger tracks suck are absalutely no good in deep snow and have very little stopping power. the only reason you have had one since 2004 is because your psi junk has kept you so broke you can;t afford a real track. so quit getting on here giving people with a real question bad advise about that finger track you have. Oh by the way did you sell it yet? Oh and to be honest i have to say if it was or would work any where it's probably going to be in MN where they have no real snow or hills right X? HaHaHa i just can't help my self Scott.

damnit hardass we have snow...and short hills. I think your just scared;)

How do you tell where your going with out having mountains as land marks/ I am afraid that i would get lost there and never find my way back;)

HAHA. I ain't selling the track if that's what you're asking. LOL.
Go back to sleep Larry. HAHA

naw you'd be fine. Each tree is different so there's the landmark.

i had the back coutry by 121. those lugs are thick and hard. the are not weak. put 3000 hard miles on off trail and not a lug gone. but the only problem is the lugs being so big heavy and hard and its a slower track and when your always going fast it slowly vibrates the sled to death. very very loud to. but over all i loved it. the hook up was soooooo good. the hard lugs dig into any snow

Is there a clear answer then to the track? First thing I CAN'T stand the looks of finger tracks, sorry but I think there hideous. I had a 1.75 on my 440 REV last and it fell apart like butter in the sun, but there crap tracks to begin with. I just don't want that same deal to happen to me. I am pretty hard on tracks, but who cares right? There replaceable. Just looking for something durable.

i dont care what other people have to say about there ****y tracks, they can think what they want cuzz every track is good for somthing
davidoff ran them for years and has loved them

I have the '09 Backcountry track on my 800 IQR and I love it. It's a bad *** track for set up snow or trails, trenches a little in the soft stuff but this track hooks well in all conditions and seems very durable, I would reccoment it over the challenger, challenger 136 always folds too easy on me.
