Chaincase Oil

What are guys running for oil in there chain case? Is your oil staying clean? I ran that Torco crap last year and my oil looked horrible when I drained it. Switched this year to Redline 75W90 GL-5 spec gear oil with new chain. 16 days and I snapped a chain. Not sure what to think. Any ideas?

I run GM synth 75-90, seems to work well.
Loose chain tension can cause them break, due to the load/unloading whip effect.
Kinda like holding a piece of string tight between your hands and trying to break it. Compared to letting it sag in the middle and giving a pull to break it.

I didnt know I had this many options. I jun run the amsoil or yamaha stuff they sell. I wouldnt change it but every year. Been in there 3 times this year though.

Shell Synthetic chaincase oil from Canadian Tire. Before that I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. No problems with either.

you have other issues going on in there if your chain broke. your choice of gear oil is not causing a chain to break. any good clean gear oil should be fine. (unless there is no oil in there!) i have been running the redline 75/90 for years and never a problem. improper chain tension? poor quality chain? riding the sled extremely hard with boost?

Gotta confess this was self induced. This is why you should not work on your sled late at night. Somehow got both washers on the idler gear on the inside. Idler was wearing on outer chain link causing it to break. At least I don't have to live in fear of breaking another chain.

The first step to correcting a problem is admitting that you have the problem in the first place. HeHeHe I am glad you found the issue and were able to fix it
