chaincase oil

ATF

Clean, non-foaming, doesn't stink, easy to clean up, good for high pressure and wear areas. Does not get stiff in the cold.

Lots of guy use it. Most everyone in our group uses ATF.

You are safest with Skidoo synthetic. Cost is about $16 for 12oz. your chain case will take about 11oz. If you have a good dealer it wont matter but my dealer will check all the oils in a sled and send them off, if it doesnt meet skidoo specs you are SOL on a warranty if they want to be like that too???

Just about every oil has enough properties to run in a chain case. There is the same type of chain and gears in an engine and transmission. I really doubt that a dealer will spend the money to get oil tested to prove BRP oil is being used, if it is possible to tell if it was BRP's. (2c)

I don't know, I have an 09 xp 800. Does it have a drain plug?

I'm not sure if xp's have a drain plug or not but you can look underneath at the belly pan under the chaincase and see if there is a hole, if there is there should be an allen screw plug in the bottom of the case, 3/16 is the size of the allen wrench I believe.

Drain

XP does not have a drain. Must remove cover.
