Chain Tension

I'm re-gearing my 700 from 19-40 to 19-41. The 41t gear I found has no markings and doesn't resemble the stock polaris 40t. Instead of the hub having an abrupt 90 degree step this gear is tapered around the hub. Not a big deal I don't think as all the other critical dimensions are the same from what I can tell (may have to add a shim here or there). Anyway, with this gear combo in place my chain is damn near tensioned and the tensioner barely fits. I need a longer chain or if permissible, could I do away with the tensioner completely? I kinda leanin' toward NO but would like to hear what some of you have to say. This setup yields apprx. 1/4" of chain deflection. I know this will change once the chain stretches from use but could this be done without having to worry to much? Sorry for the long post, thanks...

Run it. Put the tensioner in and then when it stretches, adjust it. Straighter the chain, the less friction. There is no reason to have a "S" bend in the chain. As long as you can get the gears on it will be fine. Adjuster is there to take the slack out, if they could build them so they didn't have slack in them they would but with different gear combos they can't.
